Abstract
Affirmative action is the engagement in effort to provide opportunities and consideration to a group of people in the society who are considered miner. This policy is especially being practiced in institutions of learning and employment. It should embrace education for all as well as employment to minority groups such as women and the disables. This topic of affirmative action has turned to be a heated debate due to controversy surrounding its constitutionality. Bergmann, B. (1996).
The Equal Results Argument
We must appreciate the fact that human nature is somehow identical. On a fair play ground, every human race and ethic group would perform to their highest capability given the same chance and treatment. Any inequality in result is as a result of inequality in opportunity given to each person Bergmann, B. (1996). History is very important while explaining equal results in affirmative action. Blacks have been naturally discriminated in history of America in terms of slavery and racism. The blacks have been denied equal chance to schooling, exclusion from trade unions which has resulted to malnutrition and poverty Bergmann, B. (1996). This has really affected their performance and output as compared to whites. The blacks are equally able and this can be realized only if the results are socially and legally constructed .The equal results argument holds water and this can be seen clearly by taking an example of the current US president Barrack Obama. Obama is a black man who since his childhood has been given proper education an equal opportunity for employment. The results are been seen now since he has delivered just like the former white presidents of the US did.
However, Pojman argues that studies have it that there is a distinct genetic difference between groups, races and sexes. Moreover, people within a family and races have genetic differences in intelligence. This study should not be ignored in totality. One should expect these differences in education sectors as well as in employment areas. Pojman further argue that the minority group such as blacks and women should not be given priority just for the mere fact that they are marginalized. Bacchi,.L. (1996). But people should be recognized as per their qualifications and capabilities. Some groups are more talented than others therefore one cannot be given an equal opportunity in a place where she or doesn’t qualify.
On the other hand, Shelby Steele says that blacks should take the full responsibility of their misappropriate crime rates together with their poor academic performance and should rather stop blaming a system imposed on them by whites. Bacchi .L. (1996). According to Steele, blacks are forcing the whites to support affirmative action out of fear to avoid being accused of racism. Blacks especially their youths involve themselves in some destruction culture such as hip hop. The decline in the family life of the blacks has become a real problem. Such cultures victimize them and should not be supported in the name of affirmative action.
