Airkix is machine that allows for indoor skydiving by using a wind tunnel to simulate conditions through which skydiving takes place in an enclosed indoor environment. Airkix machine has been gaining popularity in the recent past since it was introduced because virtually anybody can use it. It does not require any special skills and is suitable for people who fear heights. The various business that operate the Airkix have reported profits and are optimistic about the future prospects of the machine.
The cost of the Airkix machine varies depending on a number of factors. These factors include; the size of the machine, the speed at which wind is being pumped, the design and any extra customization. The company that produces Airkix, iFly International has four main variants of the machine with different sizes: 12 feet, 14 feet, 16 feet and customized. However, it does not provide information on the price.
The Airkix machine at Milton Keynes was installed at 4.4 million British Pounds. The machine has a wind tunnel of 12 feet (3.6 metres) that generates wind speed of up to 165 miles per hour. The machine can accommodate more than six people at any point in time. The machine serves both amateurs with little knowledge of skydiving as well as professionals. Machines with a larger wind tunnel will cost more. An example is the one at Basingstoke Leisure Park. The Airkix at Basingstoke Leisure Park costed 6 million British Pounds. The wind tunnel was 14 feet wide. It also had two skiplex ski slopes together with a permanent brush boarding slope.
