Al Ahmadi Group Concert Essay

The event, dubbed the Last Night of the Prom(s) 2013 was organized at the British Embassies of Kuwait under the support of the embassies and the H.M Ambassador to Kuwait; H.E. Mr. Frank Baker. The performances were done by the Al Ahmadi Music Group. The event ran from Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th every day beginning from 7.00pm. The event featured classical music and pomp dance. The instruments used included flutes, piano, conductor, percussion, trumpet, cello, violin, oboe, French horn, trombone, viola and clarinet.
During the event I listened and watched a variety of performances. The first event was the performances by Anna Karadimitrova who performed the soprano and Haythem Abdullahi who performed the bass. They both collaborated to perform the4 songs overture, Habanera, Gypsy dance and Toreador song. The second performance of the event was by Harriet Bushman and Raphael Bushman with excerpts from Gideon that included three classics; He’ll blow his trumpet, the miraculous Meal and Miracle for the Troops.
The other events that followed were performed by the whole group. They included Overture to William Tell, pomp and Circumstance arch No.1, “Land of hope and Glory”, Op.39 and Jerusalem. Haythem Abdulla also performed the Rule Britannia as the second last performance of the event. The American school of Kuwait supplied the group with both the rehearsal space and the orchestral equipment. The New English School provided the choral rehearsal space while the British Embassy provided the Events and Security Staff.
The event was generally a success and the large audience over the three day period was a confirmation of the success of the event. The crowd was buoyed from the onset and most of those who attended the event on the first day did not miss the event even on a single day. The performances were moving and lively throughout the three day event. The performers did not disappoint either with the instrumentalists carrying the day as the best t performers. The vocals were a bit rusty and at times did not match the liveliness with which the instruments were played. The group has done a lot in playing the music and can rival any instrumentalists around the world but the vocals need a bit of harmonizing so that the audience are not only moved by the good instrumentals but also the words/vocals of the performers.
I have attended such an event again in Netherlands and there were several similarities between these two events that I have now attended of a similar kind. The passion from the crowd together with the good instrumentalists was a scene common in both events. The vocals during the event in Netherlands were quite good and harmonized with the instrumentalists which was a challenge in the event in Kuwait. My greatest surprise during this event was how well the natives in Kuwait have mastered the English language to a point where they can perform on stage using the language in a fluent manner.
During the event, I enjoyed the instrumentalists which I thought were a benchmark for any other events of a kind to look to. They were absolutely fantastic and I really credit them for pulling the crowds until the last day of the event. Through the event I was able to appreciate the people of Kuwait, their culture and its integration with some elements of the English culture. I really enjoyed the event right from the meals, performances and interactions with other audience during this event. It is an event that I would recommend to anyone in future who is not sure of what to expect. It will surely move you if you make the effort to attend.
