Technology in Context – Film
Considering the limitations imposed on filmmaking by reality including costs and perhaps the impossibility of some actions in the film it was investable that computers programs would be called upon to resolve this issue. Technology in filmmaking then moved to the stop motion photography of 1925, to the special effect technologies such as puppets, miniatures, 3D and composite shots, and Claymation among others to the current advanced Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). CGI uses rendering techniques to develop 3D scenes from 2D images with advanced algorithms that can determine the scene’s features including texture, shadows and even camera angles.
The movie that I have recently watched where the CGI was amazing is Jupiter Ascending. This film had well rendered battles over a city where the main characters could fly and fight with the rendering appearing perfectly. In addition, the film had depictions of spaceships and their flight.
