When world war was officially broke out in Europe between allies and central powers in the year 1914, America adopted a policy of non intervention and neutrality. After some unfavorable incidents, America decided to participate in the war and it was officially declared on 6th April, 1917. In this paper we would look at several aspects related to the participation of America in world war.
The main Factors behind the American participation in the war were a series of incidents. Reason one arose when German U-Boats attacked a British ship Lusitania on 7th of May, 1915 and one hundred twenty eight American on board were killed. It spread the anger in America.
Another reason was a diplomatic event, which expressed German ambitions. In the beginning of year 1917 Germany offered Mexico economic assistance in lieu of joining the war from her side. It was told to Mexico that the territory taken by America will be returned to Mexico after war. This secret plan was revealed which compelled America to enter into war.
Woodrow Wilson was not in favor of war but all the above mentioned circumstances and pressure from opposition leader and public made him to declare the war. After declaring the war, America sent a massive number of army men and navy to join British and French forces and they changed the whole state of affairs.
The result of this war became very fruitful for the blacks and women in the American society. They got several rights and freedom in the society and their role was changed to a larger extent. The women got opportunities to work because men were on a war mission; it paved the way of their independence in future. Blacks also got several rights and opportunities in the American society and were ready to play bigger roles.
