Racial discrimination has been a deep rooted form of discrimination in most societies with Co existences of two races. The white race has always been regarded as the superior race; this has been the norm from the ancient times. As a result the white race had continuously discriminated against the black race. Blacks being considered as the minority have continuously being exploited by the white people. Significantly the world is changing and people have changed their mentality about which race is superior to the others. This has been due to the development in religion which argues out that all the people are equal before God. In addition, development of education among the blacks people especially the Africans has proved that blacks have the same capabilities as the white people.
Until 1960’s, racism was deeply rooted in America despite it being the most powerful country in the world. The black Americans faced a lot of inhuman oppressions, they were subjected to oppression, forced to live under conditions of poverty. Moreover, the blacks were employed in the less paying jobs yet they were overworked. The youths were never spared in being harassed they continuously received harassment from police officers
In the early years America was moving towards a society of two separate and unequal races. These two races had different types of social classes such that they have different social facilities. There were schools for the whites and others for the blacks. In addition they had different public washrooms, hospitals and waterfalls .The number of unemployed blacks remains as twice as the number of unemployed whites. This proves that the blacks were highly discriminated against
The mortality rate of the black infants is higher than the mortality rate of white infants. More ever the blacks earning is 50% of the whites earning.
In the 1960’s there arose different people who protested for the rights of the blacks. Among them arose Martin Luthar King Junior. He tried to change people’s minds by educating people on the need to fight against racial discrimination. However some groups didn’t like the idea of equality, an example is the Ku Klux Klan. They threatened the blacks and tried to force them to fly from the towns by bringing down their houses and murdering people. The K.K.K would wear white attires to symbolize their white color. They would literally try to frustrate the blacks by pretending to be ghost. They were dissatisfied with the idea of blacks regaining their rights. KKK members would borrow water from the black families claiming they have resurrected in attempt to make themselves appear as ghosts. Martin was jailed several times and later killed by KKK member .However he oversaw a society where both the white and the blacks would dine together.
The ghettos in around 1960s exploded, out of this movement Black Muslims, the League for Revolutionary Black Workers, Black Panthers demanded for recognisition of the black race .the movements was as a result of the harsh conditions faced by the blacks. They also were as a results of emerging African countries that were fighting for indepedence. They were determined to find solutions to their find and this showed a revolutionary society where most discriminated were crying out . Having the support of religious leaders who were determined to see a society where people existed in peace the revolutionary movements gained a lot of popularity. The sense of need for equality based on the race become clear to everyone and movements faced minimum oppositions.
They cried out for proper and equal payments, equality in the employment posts and this led to the passing of a bill into right the bill involved lowering the voting tax which kept most poor people away from voting .The law stated that the citizens could not be restricted from voting by any form of taxes this benefited the blacks and the whites, in that nothing could stop them from voting. In 1965 a right that stated that all black Americans could vote under all circumstances was passed. This therefore gave them equal rights as the Americans.
Significantly 1960’s is associated with a number of revolutionary on top of social revolutionary that dictated racial equality. Politics had effective change as military forces were trained. In addition there was development of police force that protected the president. This followed after the assassination of President John Kennedy. Americans also experienced a change in the sports sector. America become very active in Olympics games and won more than ten gold medals. They shifted their focus from racial differences into other important aspects of life. Through this it established itself as a country of admiration by other developing countries.
In conclusion Americans has the greatest history of having racial discrimination. The racism was deeply rooted that it caused death to many people among them being the blacks and those who fought against it. However racism still has some traces but this cannot be compared to the past.
