Written by Steyn Mark, the book was published in 2006. The author’s arguments find basis on emerging societal issues at both the regional and global level. These include high birth rates in the Muslim countries while western countries put a limit to the number of children each family can have and in turn, lower the birthrates in the said countries. A good example is Germany, a country that records an average of two children in each family and is content with the low numbers of births among its people. With such statistics, Steyn’s worries are well founded as the number of the old far surpasses that of the young in the European and American countries. In addition, the author argues that with the high number of Muslims in the home countries, America has recorded an equally high number in the number of the Islamic community on its lands. This is no problem but the fact that the community would rather follow their own laws instead of those set in their host country is the source of concern.
The arguments revolve around three major factors. The first is the issue of unbalanced demographics with Steyn arguing that the old cannot defend the cultural and societal norms in a country without the help of the youth, whose numbers are dwindling fast. Next is the fact that the laws in the country are mostly considered to be outside the social context. This is especially by immigrants and other non-natives who consider their own laws as superior in light of those set in the country. For instance, most Muslims would rather apply the Sharia Law instead of the American constitution even when on American soil. Finally, with the recorded low birth rates in the European countries, Steyn believes that the set ideologies in the countries cannot be protected forever. For instance, in case there is a revolution, the youth will be needed to see it through because of their physical strength and new ideas. The old generation on the other hand, cannot be depended on to protect current ideas against pollution from the invaders.
Overall, Steyn believes that America is the only country that will stand against the Muslims while other countries are taken over by the Muslim community. This is so despite the negative ideas people have against America and its people. The book carries an example of the set ideas against America, stating that Muslim countries see the United States as immoral and associates the land with high rates of immorality such as homosexuality, where gay marriages are legal in some states. With these set notions, the Islamic communities believe America to be against all that is good and will therefore lack the divine protection the Muslims believe they have. To this, Steyn refutes arguing that the Islamic community will have to do more than try to intimidate America with force in order to see a form of dominance. On the contrary, the author argues that America retaliates to force and so the use of such strategies will only prove futile.
The book revolves around Islamity, the fact that the American and European countries have reacted differently to the religion and how the population statistics have played a major role in this factor. In addition, the book is a guideline for the European countries, one in which strategies are provided to help the people stand up to different threats instead of waiting for America to come to the rescue. As per the title, Steyn Mark believes America will be the only remaining country as the rest of the world succumbs to the ideas set by the Islamic countries.
