The movie American History should only be viewed by the mature unbiased individuals reason being I heard immature giggling both during and after class which made me mad. This is important to such people especially in embracing the change as for example Derek was bad but finally he changed. The importance of fighting against racism is also depicted. In the movie we are told of the instance when Murray a history teacher for Danny Vineyard (Edward Furlong) gives them assignment to write a paper on any book which relates to the struggle for human rights.
Danny writes a paper about Adolf Hitler. Danny is threatened to be expelled from school by their history teacher but Dr.Bob Sweeney their principal intervenes and tells Danny to read more history and evens on Sweeney .In this instance racism is seen with their consequences. Had it not been for the principal Danny could have been expelled from school because of just race differences! Other instances also occur due to racism, we see Dennis being murdered. All these instances are due to racism and when all people over the age of 18 years watch this movie they get to know the consequences of racism and thus fight against racism.
The message is racism and its consequences and the change some people undergo after they know the consequences of racism. This does not portray some groups as powerful, intelligent and dangerous. Derek is portrayed as powerful as he uses guns to fight those from other races but later changes to a good man.
Derek is viewed as both powerful and dangerous initially but chose in the end to do the right thing. This movie is important as it advocates change to those who initially practice racism but change in the end.
