An American Friend Essay Sample

Being strange to a place is one of the most confusing moments of one’s life. It is characterized with massive loneliness since there are no friends or relatives. One is always in fear of the kind of people he or she talks to since it is impossible to determine one’s character immediately people meet. Loneliness becomes more when one realizes that he or she is so far from home. When it hits the mind one is not going back home any time soon the problem of loneliness becomes worst. This is because, the individual has to interact with people and at this point, he or she cannot find a friend whom he or she could trust with his or her character for friendship. This is a main problem with most of the foreign students.
A far distance from home makes students lonely making them bare stressful life as they cannot easily identify themselves with fellow students. However, with time connections start to develop following continuous interactions.
As a foreign student in the United States from Kuwait, I was hit with the problem of loneliness when i got there for my studies. As any other person in a foreign land, it became hard for me to get a friend who i would trust to spend my time with as well as assist each other in studies. Defining a person’s character is one of the most difficult problems that was in my mind. Therefore, I had to be particularly keen on what kind of person i chose as a friend. At this moment, I was looking for an individual with integrity, hardworking and overflowing of humility. Therefore, my task of searching for a friend was a difficult task indeed.
Luckily, I met with a friend from the united states, who defined my fortune in the country. His name is Jimy. The man was beyond what i expected to find in the United States as a friend. He was a down to earth young and hardworking man. Everyone in the university would have wished to be associated with him. He defined what good morals are and how discipline is characterized. How could I have missed such a friend? It had never dawned to me that people who were downright strangers would easily become friends.
Jimy was an ever busy lady with minimal time to spend for leisure. He made me miss this beautiful life of being always busy. It was always my wish to understand why he never had time for leisure or any other time passing moments. Following his conservative it was hard to follow him so much and realize what he was doing when he was out of class.
One day i gathered guts to ask him what was revolving around his life since most of the time he was not in class. It became so emotional to Jimy when she started the narration of the cause of consuming most of his time out of class. Despite being born in one of the world’s best economies, it was extremely hard for his family to raise his school fees. Since he was the most learned in the family the option left for him was to get means to gather money that would assist go to school. I could not contemplate how a student from such a country would lack school fees.
Being a man made the situation more critical. In the United States, men are brought up as responsible individuals, in preparation as leaders in the families they will get in the future. Jimy found this as a real preparation since he had now understood what it means by looking for money. He had gathered adequate management skills, which most youths do not possess.
Jimy had to keep three jobs to keep her life rolling. He could always wake up exceptionally early and make it to his first job from Monday to Friday from 6 am to 10 am. At 10:30 am, he could get to school and prepare for his classes, which had favored him. All his classes would start at 11 am with some extending upto 6pm. His second job was running from 2pm to 7pm for three days a week. His second job ran from Friday to Sunday. The third job was based on Saturday from 7am to 2pm and Sunday night from 8pm to midnight.
When it came to my turn to tell him about myself and where I come from, it became extremely emotional for him. He could not define how every student in my country would be offered a scholarship for higher education with my country being of a lower economy than the United States. Pain stubbed him deep when he found out that there were several students in the school from my country who were expelled of misconduct and poor performance. He always wished that he had such an opportunity. He vowed he could be the most hardworking and excellent student is such an opportunity was available to him. He was ever angry with the governance of the education system in the country and proclaimed he would work hard to ensure that he campaigned for a proper education system that would favor every child in the United States.
This was a real problem for Jimy and a learning lesson for me. It dawned on me that everything is possible, provided time is well managed. Judy was a lesson to my life. Despite him finding it hard to make it to all classes, Jimy was always among the top performers in the school. Whenever, he was free, there were people surrounding him for consultation on certain problems in the course.
Jimy was a mentor to me and many other students in the country. He taught me good values of life some of them being proper time management and proper relationship with the people surrounding me. I always admired how he handled difficult situations. Jimy could always come up with concrete ideas, when the class was in an issue. He was favourite to many instructors following his adherence to instructions and outstanding performance.
As went to the united states i was utterly unfamiliar with many places in the country., Despite orientation by the administration of the University, it was still had for me to locate different sections of the school. It is during these moments that Jimy became acutely beneficial to me. This gentle man had an outstanding masterly power. She could easily locate where we were when we found ourselves confused of where we are and where we were headed. Some of the most memorable moments include the several times i lost direction on my own. I trusted that he knew every corner of the school and I called him for direction. The problem came up when I was unable to pronounce the name of the place i was in, and Jimy could not understand what i meant with the name i used. He could not assist me this moment, and I had to find my way out of the place.
Since then, Jimy made fan out of my language, which makes me recall him every day. It was a real fan to find Jimy in the United States as a friend. He exposed me to seriously may elements of life that will not be gathered in schools most of the time. There are times I found my pockets without money to spend and it almost became hard for me to request for upkeep from my parents. It was awkward to call my parents from time to time begging for money while my best friend in the school earned money for his upkeep as well as paying his fees.
With time, I requested Jimy to assist me get a job while I was a still a student. Following the connection that he had developed, I got a job in one of the companies where he was working. It is here i realized I had known just a fraction of Jimy. He was the most hardworking person in company, with everyone wishing to work in the department where he was. He was an intensely focused and hardworking young man. In the company, he had been nicknamed “ the reformer” meaning the one who brought change. Since then my life changed, and I became a self-reliant student.
Meeting Jimy was an eye opener. He changed my thoughts and made me believe that I could do anything if only i was willing and had time to execute the responsibility. My high performance in the school was as a result of lessons i learnt from Jimy. I will never regret meeting this incredible friend.
