One of the most narcissistic persons I have met is my friend's cousin, Joy. I do not think I have ever met a worse know-it-all, acting as if she knows everything and can do everything all by herself. She is unpleasantly materialistic into the bargain, and does not even try to hide her adoration of sports cars, money, or luxury. She does not have a boyfriend because she says she has high standards for a man: he must be handsome and rich - typical of her. I find this utterly ludicrous considering how fat and ugly she is - and I am sure this more than just my resentment talking.
I got into the receiving end of her unbelievable egotism when we both joined a trip to the Grand Canyon together with our common friends. There were seven of us and I was to drive the minivan for the whole trip. On the way she was saying things, to my chagrin and annoyance, like, "Hey Jerry, can’t you drive better than this? Don’t shake the car. I’m uncomfortable here at the back." I remember being really sick during that drive, and it was a long four-hour drive. She was just sitting there with her earphones plugged to her ears during the whole trip. I cannot believe anybody can be so rude and inconsiderate. She did not even help when we needed it in carrying things or asking for directions. I remember when we arrived at our hotel, we took the wrong turn to our rooms and lost our way a bit. I distinctly remember her exclaiming, "You're so stupid! Why can't you see the direction right in front of your nose?" We were all tired from the trip and her outburst just drained all of us - what a waste of energy. She cannot even get past of thinking of herself to realize that everyone in the group were as tired as her. She seemed devoid of anyone's feelings had a knack of choosing precisely the words that will sting you. I don't think I talked to her anymore for the rest of the trip.

In choosing friends, looks does not matter; it is the character that counts.
