An Incident of Renewed Faith by Peter Nez is an exceptionally well-written short story that is a true depiction of relatable everyday humanitarian experiences. The absolute emotion and sentiments reflected in this narrative have the propensity of instantaneously grabbing the readers’ attention. The description provided by the author concerning the entire sequence of events allows the readers to understand, comprehend, and visualize the author’s perspective. Nez has been successful in presenting a dramatic and colorful explanation of the occasion whereby he had to visit the court due to a ticket issued to him. His descriptive and elaborative style along with the use of fragmented sentences makes the prose easily understandable. In particular, the segment in which he brilliantly provides the details about the officer are really enjoyable. I absolutely liked the way he tells about other officers’ joy upon seeing the officer. The author describes them as ‘cold hallways’ brightening up on seeing their supervisor (Nez, 2015). Such phrases could be found throughout the story for captivating the reader. It must be mentioned that the adoption of this modern writing style makes the reader remain connected with the story.
Another distinctive characteristic of this narrative is the manner in which the author has represented cops. He states that it is not easy to see “cops as human” (Nez, 2015). This is absolutely correct as people consider police officers as individuals without any feelings or sentiments. However, the author talks of cops positively. He shows the readers that cops are also human beings like other ordinary people with feelings.
