The problem of abortion has long been widely discussed in the literature in many parts of the world. This paper is dedicated to analysis of two articles dedicated to this issue – “How abortion hurts women: The hard proof” by Erika Bachiochi. The second – “Pro-Choice as an act of love” by Megan Padilla. It is no secret that the number of the strongest opponents of abortion is increasing day by day. Their arguments are not only extremely powerful, but also very strong. However, no matter how sad it may sound, abortion remains the key to solving many and varied problems.

In the article by Erika Bachiochi, it is definitely stated that first of all abortion is a crime against morality and humanity. After depriving a human being of life, we are breaking all conceivable laws of nature. Abortion - is a real demographic catastrophe for countries with insufficient birth rate. It is worth noting that the demographic crisis is now seen not only in almost all post-Soviet space, but also in a number of countries in Western Europe. The author also states that abortion is a violation of the rights of the father, who is often not even aware of the decision taken by a woman.
In addition, abortion is a dangerous time bomb that threatens the institution of the family and violates all the possible family values (Bachiochi 4). Induced abortion in most cases is harmful to women's health. The author here is talking not only about the reproductive functions. Abortion may be the cause of many serious diseases, ranging from hormonal disorders to serious mental disorders. Abortion is the murder of the unborn baby, which cannot be explained and justified. Thus, arguments of the author against the medical termination of pregnancy, not only have the right to exist, but look more than convincing.
Arguments of Megan Padilla are centered around the idea that abortion can be compared with the mechanism of protection of the population from the accumulation of genetic defects, which sooner or later will lead to degeneration. If abortion is medically justified (rough congenital defects of the child), the abortion in this case is good. Abortion can save the life of the mother, who for medical reasons is not able to bear and give birth. Abortion in a specialized medical facility is an alternative to criminal abortion. The author states that if a woman has decided to terminate the pregnancy, she will do so regardless of the ban. The vast majority of illegal abortions end in infertility and cause irreparable harm to women's health. Quite often illegal operations end with death (Bachiochi 5).
Megan Padilla states that although strange and incredible as it may sound, but in this case, abortion is one way to increase fertility. After all, only a healthy woman after an abortion can in the future have healthy children. Abortion is a pretty effective way of birth control for countries with populations going wild (e.g. India or China). Abortion is a way to solve social and economic problems of the family. Termination of unwanted pregnancy is one way to reduce the additional costs to the state social benefits and maintenance of children's homes.
Abortion is one way to reduce the number of children left in the care of the state. The prohibition of abortion would not only increase the number of children in orphanages. If officials ban abortion law, it will inevitably increase the number of illegal abortions. The right to abortion is the right of women to control their lives, their right to realize in a creative or career plan.
Both authors of the articles were trying to understand and present their viewpoint around the following points: is it possible to force an abortion; Is it humanely and does it fit into the norms of morality; Is abortion a murder; Ardent opponents mainly from religious motives scream that abortion is a mortal sin, and all who have made will burn in hell. In my opinion, categorical attitudes towards this issue is unacceptable. After all, there are times when an abortion is necessary. There are much more such cases than situations where abortion is an unforgivable mistake.
For example, a girl of thirteen years. And she got pregnant after the first sex. What is important is that she is still a child, and not only that this will ruin her life, but also cannot provide the kid with everything that is necessary, and responsibility for education, most likely, will fall on the parents of a young mother. As a result, we have shot down at least three life-courses (if it does not take into account a happy dad and no less happy young grandfather). And this is the most optimistic scenario. Worse, if the child is sent to a shelter or in the street. So why not just have an abortion and not torture yourself and loved ones.
Another example: in a small apartment in the province live mom, dad, twelve children, grandmother, dog, parrot and fish. It turns out that in the family will soon add a thirteenth child. This dad worked as a mechanic at the factory, and her mother engaged in farming. The word contraceptives, they obviously do not know. For family it is so hard to make ends meet, and the new child - it is so expensive (Padilla 7).
It is necessary to present the example of many parents who believe that the responsibility ends when the child is born, and do not think about what kind of life they can give him. Another important topic - the victims of rape. How they can bring up the child, which is reminiscent of one of the most terrible moments in life. And if they hate the father, it can be transferred to an unwanted child.
In all of this, there are times when an abortion is absolutely wrong thing to do. Firstly, if it causes significant harm to the health of the girl, and she cannot have children after this surgery. Secondly, when abortion is a consequence of the banal cowardice and unwillingness to take responsibility. It seems you are living together, or dating for a long time, and suddenly she gets pregnant. After clarification of this fact begin long talks of persuasion (usually by men) that "we are not ready," "Maybe later," "we are still repairing the apartment ", "that's when I was promoted," etc. In such cases, abortion is disgusting and immoral act.
Although far more vile and immoral behavior is a man escaping after news of an unwanted pregnancy of girlfriend. At best, these cowards leave money on the termination of the pregnancy itself (Padilla 7). Hence the conclusion: whether decision is to keep the child, or to make hard choices in favor of abortion, a man has to go through this on a par with the girl, because he has the same extent to blame for the current situation. And every woman needs to choose the path that takes the least suffering to all participants in this drama of life. Both authors of the articles succeeded to present their arguments in an interesting and compelling way, presenting their experience and showing the life and this choice from their own perspectives.
My personal viewpoint considering the issues and stories presented in these articles is that abortion is still a murder, no matter how well the opposing view is defended. However, I should say that owing to the article by Padilla, I now better understand the variant of pro-choice, and the arguments presented in her article are logical and well-founded. Still, the arguments presented in the pro-life article of Bachiochi are closer to my viewpoint, especially with such good argumentation.
