Analyzing A Work Of David Bowie Essay Sample

The exhibition presented in the Art Gallery of Ontario on David Bowie has appealed to many fans of art exhibitions not only due to its honored person David Bowie who has been considered a myth in rock music but also due to the power and beauty of the exhibits. The aim of this essay is to present you with one of the exhibits chosen on my behalf based on purely personal criteria. The exhibit chosen is the following image.
They say that an image is equal to a thousand words and this is definitely undeniable in the case of this picture. DavidBowieisasinger, actorandmulti-talentedartist who has provoked great admiration and surprise in the world of music due to his eccentric appearance and behavior. His songs and musical albums have all been different and innovative, mixing the pop culture with funky elements. Since Bowie is such an eccentric figure and complex personality who has experienced according to his own personal witnesses and interviews his identification with the personas he has acted throughout his career, dealing with difficulties in finding out who he really is during his life, it is expected that artistic creation has been influenced accordingly following his complexity of character and appearance. Therefore all the artistic expressions presented though the exhibits of the exhibition in the Art Gallery are equally complex, provocative and imaginative taking the audience’s thoughts and reflections further steps forward.
The image chosen to be presented in this essay is an image of Bowie standing up with his two legs half open, being apart. It is not clear whether his legs are kneeled or straight up. He wears a stretched tight kind of uniform and he seems to be staring at somewhere. The body seems balanced and the contrast in color between the black tight uniform and the red background of the image shows even more vivid the image of this man standing somewhere in nowhere. This is the first impression which caught my eyes, and influenced me more than anything else. I found myself looking into an image which made me feel that I am staring at a man who is standing in the middle of nowhere. But this nowhere is not black, is not nothing, and is not pessimistic. It is an explosion, it is the country of explosion where everything is possible, and there, in this underlying explosion there is one man standing up. He is what comes out from the underlying explosion. He is the new kind of man coming to this new red land where everything is alive and ready to dance at the rhythm of beat to show that he has come to make things go round. He wantsto leave his mark on the new land and draw his own path to new explorations which it may find fans but it may also not. One of the most challenging traits of this image is its dominance. It is an image of a male figure which is dominant in its space not because there are no other people in his space but because his appearance is indeed dominant. David Bowie is a man of power, of a power deriving from the magnetic look he has, form the balance characterizing his body, form the way he stands looking still but also ta the same time ready to rock things round. David Bowie attracts people’s attention since he seems so self-confident, having such a look of confidence in his eyes appearing to be ready to conquer the world. He is there standing in this land of the red explosion looking confident and certain on what he wishes to do. He seems to be holding steadily his dreams which he seems to have no insecurity of not fulfilling.
The amazing trait of this image is also his uniform. He is wearing a black straight tight uniform with white stripes. It looks as if it is a maze. It is a sign on behalf of the artist and the singer himself that life is a mystery holding lots of unsolved mysteries, difficulties, no easily visible outings. Life is a maze but this ought not to cause any fear to people. Because if they want to they can stand balanced and ready to go after their goals and dreams.
