Each and every piece of art carries its own sense and some particular meaning. It reflects to our way of how we perceive this world and ourselves. In this paper, such great pieces of art are going to be discussed within these measures, such as: “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, the Sistine Chapel Ceiling and the “Last Judgment” in the specific by Michelangelo.
It is important to start with the Sistine Chapel Ceiling by Michelangelo, in terms of its huge impact on the today’s society. Why specifically this artwork? The Sistine Chapel Ceiling is a set of various pictures of small sizes that are representing scenes from the Bible, especially the process of the creation of world by God. Nowadays art has gone too far from that divinity, which is present in the art of Michelangelo. Concerning this, the modern society highly appreciates this work of art. Talking about more technical and masterful side of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling, the modern society is still being highly surprised by the level, it has been decorated. Concerning this, it is not only a great example of the visual art, but also a great example of the architecture – interior design, in specifics. Today’s designers are still copying this style of designing the interior, which proves the fact that the Sistine Chapel Ceiling still causes its impact on the modern society, even after so much time has passed.
The drama is present in each of these works of art; however, undoubtedly, the most dramatic is “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. It is such because of the scene and situation it is representing. It is Jesus’s last supper and he knows about it. He also knows that he is going to be betrayed, that he is going to be murdered. Apostles are around their Teacher, they are frightened because of the words Jesus told them about the nearest future and that the betrayer is among them. This artwork represents the last moments of life. This is not only dramatic; it makes the viewer feel the inevitability of what is going to come.
Talking about the most mysterious work of art, “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci is coming to mind again. First of all, till our days, scientists, artists and other researchers are trying to solve the riddle of this artwork. Musicians are stating that there is a hidden melody and that palms of apostles and Jesus are the musical notes. Second of all, it is mysterious because of the special atmosphere, which artist has successfully managed to create on the artwork. We all know the Bible story, which has become the basis for the picture. Exactly because of it, the viewer may feel some hidden sense of the picture. The viewer may feel himself or herself like the one is present there, however there is mysterious feeling of some unexplainable divine sacredness.
If I had a chance to live near one of these artworks, I would choose to live near the Sistine Chapel Ceiling. This is a fundamental artwork, not only in terms of the visual art, but also in terms of the architecture. The ceiling is not only painted with one particular image – it is a complex artwork with various pictures. When the viewer looks at the ceiling – he or she feels the one sees the Heaven. Another reason, why would I live nearby the Sistine Chapel Ceiling is that you can’t look at this work of art and see one and only sense of it. Every time you look at it – you see something new, something you haven’t noticed before. It is like you
are opening new sense for yourself and this process seems to be endless. It charms and fascinates – because of it, I would like to live near the Sistine Chapel.
However, if I would get an opportunity to explain the importance of one of these artworks to somebody else, I would talk about the “Last Judgment” by Michelangelo, putting it on the top of my list. The reason why would I do that is because this artwork is a complex of the smallest details, and the viewer may examine it for a long period of time. Each and every detail is well painted, the game of shades is amazing – everything is proving the high level of Michelangelo’s mastery. Indeed, this is the fundamental work of art, which may be compared only to the Sistine Chapel Ceiling.
Nevertheless, if I had a chance to talk about the artwork, which I would put on the last place of my list – it would be “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, because of its simplicity. Looking at the row of such works of art as “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, the Sistine Chapel Ceiling and the “Last Judgment” by Michelangelo, we may surely notice, that “The Last Supper” is not that complex artwork as the other ones, it does not contain so many details; however, the level of Leonardo’s mastery is high indeed. Again, I would like to emphasize that the reason for the list would be the complexity of its images, there is no attempt to offence the artistic level of their creators.
As a conclusion, it is important to mention that each of the represented artworks is amazing on its own. “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, the Sistine Chapel Ceiling and the “Last Judgment” by Michelangelo are causing a huge impact on the nowadays society. People all around the world are admiring them. Some artists are trying to follow the style of Leonardo or Michelangelo. It proves the importance of these artworks and their creators even after so much time has passed.
