RESPONSE PAPER
I am very impressed that you have adapted to your field internship very well and that you have put the mission statement of the institution into practice. How do you feel when you apply the skills that you were taught to real patients and clients? I am pretty sure that you are loving every bit of the moment.
You have mentioned several job placements that you have happened to be part of. Job placements such as being a child abuse investigator and social service worker do not need one to be emotional. I am very happy that unlike your colleagues, you were not emotional. Emotions in such cases could affected your judgment as a social child investigator. Therefore, taking the stand of being emotionless during such instances is very impressive. You will be able to make tough judgment calls. After all you will be doing that for a better tomorrow for the affected children. I have a question regarding this matter, while working as a child abuse investigator, was there any follow up when these children were taken away from these abusive homes? Do you have any success story of a child who came from an abusive home and has prospered?
The internship will indeed expand your portfolio and hence increasing your marketability. Considering that you have not been in the filed for quite some time, this opportunity will act as a learning tool towards what is expected of you in future. Having close ties with your filed supervisor is a positive aspect. Many, just like your peers usually have the idea that they will not meet the expectations of their supervisors. This is totally wrong because these supervisors and human and therefore will not treat you any less. Keep close ties with your supervisor because you will learn a lot from the interaction. Learning more from her will definitely ensure your success in their profession and you will also achieve your goals. I wish you success as you strive to achieve your goals.
Embracing the relevance of field placement is a key factor towards achieving your set goals. I am happy that you are taking the field placement seriously because you will indeed learn a lot through direct interaction with the clients and your supervisor as well. Even though you have already set your goals, it I would suggest that you should not limit yourself with the goals set. You can have additional one or two goals because I know you have the potential to achieve such goals. One important feature that I have noted about your set goals lies with the fact that they will help you work in any environment. They reflect hard work, commitment and a perfect approach towards service delivery.
Appreciating the presence of a supervisor is also crucial. These are people who will help you shape your future in terms of career development. Your supervisor has enough experience and as you well know experience is the best teacher. Therefore, your supervisor will pass onto you the experience acquired overtime. The closer you get with your supervisor, the more you will learn.
Do you believe that having a field experience will affect you positively in any way? It will if and only if you establish closer relations with your supervisor. You should take note of the feedback provided by the supervisor and improve in your weaker areas. Nonetheless, I wish you success in your future career and may you achieve your goals and reach your full potential.
