With the developments of technology, it is imperative to denote that issues deemed relevant particular those that relate to human rights have since merged and made apparent. Anonymity as it relates to internet means being unacknowledged and unknown. An anonymous can make comments, post opinions while his or her identity remains concealed. With the above said, laws in regards to the same have since emerged owing the need to protect the privacy and freedom of speech of the anonymous. Anonymity as it pertains to internet being huge issue of concern, this paper will present arguments in favour protection of the anonymous, their freedom of expression and finally their personal privacy.
In regards to anonymity, freedom of expression has been and remains to be of utmost significance. Apparently, it has been established through research that anonymous communications have a special and vital significance in our political and social discourse (Electronic Frontier Foundation n.p). Based on this, the same is protected by the First Amendment as ruled by the Supreme Court. Using pseudonyms or otherwise remaining anonymous while communicating important issues that would have otherwise compromised one’s privacy, and personal stance is important. I am of the opinion that the right to anonymous free speech is justified and effective in our society. Owing the power held by prominent organizations, individuals and governments, acting a whistleblower or rather acting against unethical behaviours portrayed by the aforementioned. May in the essence compromise with one’s privacy, it is, therefore, critical to secure anonymity to avoid such issues that may even lead to fatality at critical levels. Additionally, internet being the contemporary and significant democratic forum, people ought to exercise their freedom of speech rights Using the internet as a framework. They ought to use the internet to of air their opinions and arguments that could have otherwise been perceived negatively by those in high regards (Electronic Frontier Foundation n.p). In a nutshell, I advocate the anonymous free speech essentially because it offers a framework where tether oppressed can air their views and complaints without necessarily compromising with their personal identity.
Another issue that remains significant and of utmost significance as it pertains to internet technology is the protection of the anonymous. Though many perceive that anonymity foster vigilant activities (Serracino-Inglott 238), it is of the essence to ascertain that the anonymous deserve respect and protection. Apparently, support the right of protection as it pertains the anonymous owing the fact that these people at often are motivated by the right sense of justice. In effect, these people act a very vital role as it pertains to human rights. In this sense, they deserve their right to protection. Additionally, the anonymous don’t necessarily harm but offer their opinions, even though the rear is true and justified. Considering that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion as long as it is not motivated by negative motives, anonymous people in essence deserve their rights of protection.
Personal privacy in all aspects of life is mandatory and significant. Internet interactions are not an exception too. Apparently, people use pseudonyms or rather opt to remain anonymous particularly in social media sites essentially because they deem it right within their capacity. The above in essence means that people value their privacy as it relates to internet interactions. Though many policies that in essence foster the use of real names in the social sites has since gained pace. I am of the opinion that people should choose how to express themselves as they deem best essentially because the have personal reasons they would like to protect. Additionally, the right to personal privacy as it pertains to internet because people chose to conceal their identity as a way of responding to the structural conditions of this new media (Boyd 3). In this way, they ascertain their safety.
In conclusion, though anonymity is perceived negative by some people. It is of utmost significance to denote that the same provides a framework where people can exercise their privacy rights. Additionally, they can express their views freely that could have been critiqued otherwise, and finally protect their personal identity in the long run.
