Any student caught cheating on an examination should be automatically dismissed from college.
One of the major problems faced by the teachers and the principals during examination time is students cheating. These students want to score good marks without putting efforts in their studies. It is not fair when some students work hard during their course of studies, write their exams and pass in their tests. Students who are caught cheating must be dismissed from college.
Students have different ways of cheating during an examination. They lean forward or backward, whichever is easy for them and peek into the other student’s paper and copy as much as they can. Mostly they copy word by word. If they are a little smart they write in their own words. They also bring copying sheets into the room hidden in their socks, shoes or pockets or written on a ruler or a tissue paper pretending to blow the nose or electronic gadgets hidden in the collar which either have pre-recorded notes or someone dictating the answers from the other end. When the examiner is not looking their way, they pull out their copying sheets to copy. Sometimes it also takes two or more students to cheat by exchanging their answer scripts. Some students know their classmates are cheating, they either inform the examiner about it or simply ignore them and continue to finish their exam.
Some of the reasons students cheat during their examination is, they find the subject hard and not able to understand. They don’t want to ask for help. During the course of their studies they wouldn’t revise, they simply while away the time, such students, at the time of exam would not know where to start studying from and would feel there is too much to study. This leads them to cheat during exam. Throughout the term some students show good test scores, good conduct and good consistent performance but towards the final exams it would be shocking and surprising to find them cheating. The reasons would be anxiety, stress or sleeplessness. Students who cheat and pass the tests think that if they don’t clear the tests it would disappoint their teachers and parents. Apart from the regular classes they would have to put in extra hours for their studies. They worry about peers and others looking down on them. They worry about who would say what about them. They forget about facing the consequences if they are caught cheating even though they know about it.
Students when caught cheating for the first time in an exam will be given a warning which goes to all the students. Since all the warnings would be given before and during the examinations and since the students are well aware of the consequences, if caught the second time they will be expelled or dismissed.
