Apple on Social Media
A company such as Apple has such an active persona on social platforms it’s easy to find examples of all six categories on any of their channels. Apple is strategic in their marketing research. Their insights can be seen as the company leverages trends of their audiences.
Apple poked fun at the topic of truth in advertising as they joked about iPhone 7 rumors in a Facebook post. There are many rumors circulating the web about the next model of iPhone but the company is not ready to confirm its position (Apple Inc. 2016). On Apple’s Official Facebook page there is a link on the right side directing the audience to shop for Apple products. With a click, Apple’s Facebook audience is quickly redirected to shop for products with a complete listing of their pricing (Apple Inc. 2016).
An excellent example of Apple using a targeted marketing approach recently can be found on their twitter feed on Aug. 28 at around 3:30 p.m. The post is about their recent acquisition of Glimpse. The message also implements a strong direct marketing strategy as it links their audience to ow.ly/PAIL303wkmd. The link meets both criteria of direct marketing with a strong but implied call to action and the traceability of link clicks. The tweet is directed to health savvy followers (Apple News, 2016). Consumerism is demonstrated by Apple’s hints towards a bigger battery tweet. The message uses consumerism lingo (bigger, better, faster etc.) to attract the attention of the audience (Apple News, 2016).
Apple’s communication tactics are very ethical. The company carefully links its audience to relevant information to clarify their posts. None of the posts contain any controversial topics or messages. The only way Apple’s ethics are lacking is in their supply chain management the company’s social media communication meets any and all ethical considerations.
