ADMIRALTY RATINGS
Remember, there is a distinction between the rating for the source and the rating for the information. The source reliable code is another way of stating how credible the source is based on its ability to acquire the information being provided and how the source has performed historically.
The rating for information accuracy is based on the level of certainty that it is a true fact. High source reliability does not provide full confirmation. For example, an A-rated source may pass misinformation due to organizational errors or deliberate action, such as counterespionage efforts. The level of confirmation is based on verification from another independent source, and is best triangulated by multiple independent sources.
Directions: Prepare a table listing three facts you have learned about your topic. Each fact must come from a different source. Be sure to include the source information for each fact on the table. You then exchange your table with your partner. You are to each independently assign admiralty ratings for each source and each piece of information. This will require independently researching the cited fact, investigating the source, and seeking independent verification of the information. (NOTE: An H-8 rating for all three is unacceptable.) Fill in the Admiralty Table, including the justifications for the ratings you assign.
