Introduction
Archeology is defined as a scientific study that tries to explain past human culture and some of their distinct behaviors. The study deals with examining materials remains such as human fossils, ruins of buildings and human artifacts of the ancient human culture. Archeologist put emphasize on past societies and changes that come along over a long period.
Recent climatic changes have affected the high mountains landscape of North America in different ways; a 67% reduction of glaciers concentration is recorded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Vgs9IMixY. This can be attributed to the fact that global warming is at an increasing rate. Climatic changes have also resulted in the disappearance of ice patches, loss of cultural and national heritage.
Some of the Items discovered in the Ice Patch Archeology include; wood and bone.
Wood- these are remains of trees and are in the form of wood fragments. Discoveries show that they were found in or near Glacier’s ice patches. Some of the specimen obtained includes western larch, Douglas-fir, and pine. Wood was deposited through transport by large raptors for nesting materials.
Bone- is a remnant of either human or animal; however, from most discoveries the bones showed no relation to human modification, but a closer look indicated that these bones were of mountain goat and bighorn sheep. Bones were deposited at the time of the animal death.
Scientific archeologist learns from the above-discovered items that environmental climate did not favor animal rearing by humans and hence humans were hunters. This is evident in that from bone discoveries, we are told that the bones were remains of mountain goats and bighorn sheep that did not graze on grass rather the animals were browsing on forage typical of high elevations. Scientific archeologists learn about the ancient use of mountain landscape that human beings used the mountain landscape for hunting purposes. This is evident by the discovery of spearhead. Also, the mountain region provided a good harbor for animals.
Conclusion
Recent research on ancient materials reveals a possibility of defined human culture, human behavior and how they cope with changes in the environment. A greater effort to reduce climatic changes should be deal with so as to preserve these useful ancient materials.
