Are current CEOs the best board members?
There is a set of the measures, which indicate that the current CEOs may be referred as the most suitable employees for being integrated into the boards of directors. The core reason for such statement is the fact that the active CEOs have a critically-essential mix of the industrial, managerial as well as the functional knowledge, which is needed for equipping them with the skills and experiences, sufficient for making effective advises and monitoring the overall state of affairs within the corporation.
More than that, the multiple areas of governance (which are important for the durable success of the organization) may be contributed by CEOs. For example, the corporate strategy development, maintenance or even more, and its vetting; risk management operations as well as the relationships between stakeholder and shareholder; performance measurement and planning of CEO succession. Finally, essential intangible attributes are brought by CEOs into their organizations – for instance, the decision making and leadership skills, strong work ethic and crisis management abilities (Larcker and Tayan, 2011).
Some people believe that longevity with any corporation shows loyalty and bodes well for the employee. Others believe that in order to advance in any given field, employees must be willing to leave their comfort zone and consider employment elsewhere. What is your philosophy?
It is possible to claim that the professional advancement and development of an employee is reached in the case of leaving the comfort zone and trying to find a new employment. The core reason for such statement is the fact that in such case the activation of cognitive activities, supplemented by the creative approach towards organization of life, professional activities as well as career in general, brings the most fruitful outcomes. In addition, new employment implies gaining additional knowledge as well as the need of adjustment to the new professional duties, industry, company, team, etc. In the case if an employee manages these barriers successfully, one’s professional competence increases ad one becomes able to make professional decisions in a prompt, effective manner (Sesil, 2014).
