Introduction
Technology has come as an important aspect that is meant to help people ease on the work that is done. The world has experienced a technological revolution which has changed the face of numerous companies and communication in the world. The development of communication channels such as WhatsApp and social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have all changed the form of communication among people. On the other hand, the development of the Google search engine and Yahoo has eased the learning process and the way people gain access to information. Technology, thus, has changed the world in many ways which have both positive and negative impacts of the world and the society. The development of technology has made people become zombies in such a way that there is a lack of awareness for the people become less social (Jan Harrington 32).
The paper looks at the reasons the human race in the 21st century has turned to become a technological zombie generation in sense of confirmation and the lack of awareness. In the research, the paper begins by looking at three key arguments against technology showing how it turns us into zombies. Lastly, the paper discusses two arguments for technology showing the importance of technology and the reasons the society required adjustment which will require understanding the consequences of the change.
Analysis
The world has benefited in many ways from technology, which does not only include social media and search engines, but also business systems, transport systems among many others. It is important to understand that technology has led to the development of in the world. However, everywhere in the society from the public institutions, at home and even in the workplaces, the people have been turned into zombies by their cell phones, tablets and iPads. Some of the reasons we are becoming technological zombies include;
First, technology has created an omnipresent distraction among people during the communication. Before the revolution that brought about cell phones, there was more direct communication between people, which was important in maintaining good relations. There was more eye contact and better listening skills among the people. Cell phones brought about broken communication between the people in the society. People concentrated more on their phones rather than with the people whom they interact with. The internet further complicated communication as it brought about social media and other communication channels that use the internet (Carrott, James, and Brian Johnson 334).
Through social media, people find themselves concentrating more on their phones rather than on the people they are around. For example, in homes, it is important for verbal communication between parents and their children. However, mobile phones have created a challenge in communication as children communicate more through their phones to their friends. As a result, there is minimal communication between parents and their children. Children become internet zombies as they only physically exist in their homes, but their minds are with the people they are communicating with through their cell phones.
Secondly, technology has led to social isolation among people. Through the use of social media channels of communication, people have replaced face to face conversations and interactions with social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook. As a result, people tend to have more social over the internet rather than in real life. Friends acquired in the social media channels might not be real but many. On the other hand, such users in real life might not have any friends. This shows the extent to which social media has gone to destroy the social lives of individuals in the society especially the young people.
Social media are thus a main contributor to the people’s poor communication. The effect brought in by social media has led to the people becoming technology zombies. People are unable to communicate to others and from friends who they can talk. Through technology, there was the development of social media channels which further resulted in creating new forms of primary communication.
Lastly, technology has made it easy for people to perform most of their tasks while sitting in the comfort of their homes. Through technology, people are able to shop, learn and communicate to others. For example, the existence of e-commerce sites such as Alibaba.com, Amazon.com and eBay.com has eased the process of shopping in the society. The only thing that people require is internet and a communication channel. People have thus become lazy about going out of their houses to buy things and even acquire some services since they are able to get the services at the comfort of their homes (Henry Ergas 51).
In such cases, the internet has turned the people into technological zombies since people concentrate are more attached to their devices than a normal human being. Traditionally, it was easy for the people to go to the shops and interact with the sellers to understand the type of goods and the benefits that come with them. Platforms such as eBay.com have made this concept change since they have made everything available through the internet. People have become technological zombies through the internet which has brought about such platforms. E-learning platforms have also digitized learning, making students have limited interaction with their teachers and increased interaction with learning systems.
Even though people have become technology zombies in one way or another, technology has become a very important aspect of the society. Without the presence of technology in the world, there would be a difference in the way people would operate and less development in the world. Some of the benefits that technology brought about in the world include;
Technology has brought a major improvement in the education system of the world. Education is vital to the success of any economy. However, for a successful educational development, there is a need for better infrastructure. Communication one of the important infrastructures required for developing a good educational system. Technology thus does not work at making us zombies, but making the society find better solutions to real problems experienced (Paullet, Karen, Pinchot, and Daniel Rota 440).
Technology has simplified communication through the use of cell phones. This has been deemed as a negative impact since it makes people become technological zombies. Contrary, improved communication is an important aspect in workplaces, schools, homes and even in the society. Without the presence of televisions, radios, computers and the internet, it would be difficult to see communication. Additionally, the society would hardly develop from one point to another over the years. Technology has made improvement and development possible, which is a positive aspect (Camille Baker 648).
Conclusion
The paper has shown that technology is important and required for developing a nation, even though it is deemed as negative in some aspects. The paper has worked at showing that technology makes people zombies as it deters their physical presence. I thus find that technology is an important development experienced by the society that has helped in numerous aspects in the world. The people in the society are accordingly not becoming technological zombies, but adapting to the changes in one way or another.
