Diabetes is one of the current chronic diseases that have brought out controversies in the medical field. The cause of diabetes can be natural through genes heredity or it can be caused by health related issues such as being overweight and high cholesterol in the blood that reduces the effectiveness of the body insulin. The two common types of diabetes are the type I diabetes which is hereditary and type II mostly associated with lifestyle issues resulting to obesity and high cholesterol problems. Diabetes currently affects even young children as compared to centuries ago when it was associated with old age. This calls for a fast action in treating the illness so as to reduce the current global diabetic related cases both in adults and young generation by application of the best medical treatments available to ease this alarming chronic disease.
Weight management is the first step and the easiest way to manage and treat diabetes. Exercise has proven to be effective and patients are encouraged to exercise on a daily basis. This burns out extra calories that would have ended up being stored in the body leading to extra weight (Kunthekar, 2011). It reduces the muscle and glucose levels in the blood preventing over working of the pancreas to produce extra insulin for breaking down the extra glucose in the blood. Body exercise also ensures the body functions well and the insulin functions well in managing the glucose in the blood. This is achieved by reducing the body cells resistance to insulin. The patients are advised by the medical practitioners on the best and effective forms of exercise.
Diabetes is also managed and treated by taking the correct diet in terms of the nutritional value. High levels of carbohydrates and calories lead to weight complications putting the patient under risk of high glucose levels in the blood. Patients are therefore, advised to take diet that is high on fiber content and low on fats and carbohydrates. It is important to have a proper distribution of calories throughout the day because this helps in managing the body weight. According to Howard (2011), the recommended diet for a diabetic person should contain no more than 30% fat and the carbohydrates levels should be between 40 and 55%. They are also supposed to take at least 15% proteins. Diet and weight management is essential because it affects the overall control of blood sugar which is the main cause of diabetes.
The common method that is used in treatment of diabetes is medications which are administered orally or through insulin injections. Oral medication is applicable to the patients with a small capability of producing insulin in this case the type II diabetes (Kumthekar, 2011). An oral medication such as Exenatide enhances insulin production from the pancreas while others reduce the body resistance to injected or orally administered insulin supplements. Injection of insulin is the best treatment of diabetes type I as it directly replaces the insulin which the pancreas is unable to produce hence enabling the body to constantly regulate the blood sugar.
The essence of diabetes prevalence in the current global health has gone to a point that requires an immediate medical action to regulate the situation. Measures that reduces the total body mass including physical exercises and proper diet are necessary in reducing the possibility of getting type II diabetes while more efficient research is necessary to come up with more efficient medications for type I diabetes is necessary. This will as a result lead to reduced etymological reports on diabetes which are currently increasing at an alarming rate.
