This term paper has presented a proposal for the performing ART class. In this paper, the performance chosen by the student has been elaborated. Penn State’s Center is a staple of the university and the community. The Center was founded in the year 1985. In each season, the presentations of Cary Photographic Artists (CPA) are conducted including a gamut of performing art genres. The focus of presentations is on touring Broadway, jazz, classics, chamber music, and others. The purpose of those presentations is to engage students, staff members, and the faculty in dance, theatre, and music.
The Center for the Performing Arts aims to schedule highest caliber performances. The Center provides a balance of cultural enrichment and academics. The Center offers different courses related to art, music, and related areas. One of these courses was INART 005. During the course, students were provided with the opportunity to explore a variety of performance. The performances of students ranged from musical theaters and ballet. The performances also included modern jazz. Students were provided with the opportunity to choose five performances. When choosing the options, they are required to consider different factors including audience demographics, educational value, entertainment, variety, value, and venue.
In this paper, the proposal has presented three productions that could be brought to Penn State’s Center for the Performing Arts. The three options include:
- Altan
- Grease – the Musical
- Cultural Shock – Dance Troupe
Each of these options will be analyzed in terms of venue, educational value, entertainment value, and variety.
Altan
When choosing the production options, the venue, educational value, entertainment value, and variety of the option have been analyzed. The most important factor that needs to be considered is the potential audience. The potential audience described the number of people who are likely to attend the performing art. The attendance of students at the Center has been growing which suggests that the Center for the Performing Arts relies on the population of students to make up the audience.
The first production option is Altan a traditional Irish brand. The audience for Altan will include residents and students. Altan is likely to attract an increasing share of audience because it offers a mix of traditional music with modern art. The performance is interesting and relaxing which will be admired by people of every age group.
The venue for the event is Eisenhower Auditorium. This venue has been chosen because the performance will require more space. The educational value of Altan is high since it offers a mix of Irish music, appreciation, and culture education. The performance is likely to add to the knowledge and musical background of students. The performance of Altan is likely to have a wider impact on the audience. The performance will transfer the knowledge of traditional Irish brands.
The entertainment value of each option has also been considered when analyzing production options. Altan will offer an entertainment mix of ballad and upbeat. The performance will offer culturally enlightening fun and relatable themes. The entertainment value of each production option is important to be considered because the Center offers performance with a high entertainment value. The production options with a high level of entertainment are likely to appeal to a larger audience (Hodges, pp. 31). The performing arts center always strives to offer a balance between education and entertainment. Altan offers a variety of delicate airs to trenchant reels. The performance of Altan will be a mixture of tradition and modern sensibility. The tickets for the performance will be cheaper in order to accommodate a larger audience. The tickets will be sold to the popular group.
Grease - The Musical
The second production option that has been chosen is Grease - the musical. The audience for this production will include both students and residents. Students love Grease because of the combination offered by Grease including modern and funny. Grease offers timeless fun to the audience; therefore, the performance is also likely to attract the residents of Pennsylvania.
The venue chosen for this performance is Eisenhower. A majority of performance of the course are held at Eisenhower Auditorium. Eisenhower Auditorium has been chosen for this performance because it is the main performance venue with a capacity to accommodate as many as 2,500 people.
The educational value of Grease cannot be ignored. The mission of the Center for the Performing Arts is to engage the University. Therefore, it is important to choose the production option that offers a high educational value. The educational value of the option is high. The performance is likely to impart the knowledge of classical music and modern themes (Frierson-Campbell, pp. 33).
Grease - the musical will also offer entertainment mix with its combination of fun and relatable music. The variety offered by Grease includes a combination of classic and modern music. The tickets for Grease – the Musical will be expensive according to the demand for the performance.
Culture Shock Dance Troupe
The third production option proposed for the Center is cultural shock dance troupe. The audience for this performance includes students who are interested in hip-hop music and dance. The audience for this performance also includes residents who are interested in dance, entertainment, and fun. The venue for this performance is Eisenhower. Eisenhower Auditorium has been chosen for the performance because the auditorium can accommodate a large number of people. The choice of the venue is important in order to provide expected services to the audience. The venue for the performance events has been chosen after considering the anticipated size of audience and the expected number of tickets that would be sold.
Cultural Shock Dance Troupe will offer a mix of entertainment, education, and enrichment. The performance will allow the audience to get intense training of dance skills and musical performance. The performance will be a great training platform for individual development and foundation of the career and education of students. The performance of the troupe will allow the audience to get information about entertaining and educational dance programs (Kay, pp, 50).
The educational value of cultural shock dance troupe is high because the performance can deliver knowledge of professional hip-hop and performance. The performance will offer a variety of entertainment including non-classical, traditional, popular, and current. The students of the Arts Center have the opportunity to engage in the educational aspects of the performing art. The performances at the Center ranged from Shakespeare to modern dances. The cultural shock dance performance will cater to a larger audience and provide cheap tickets. The performance will allow students to learn how to express themselves through dance and visual arts. The performance will also allow students to learn artistic dance medleys including dance showcases and community events.
