Artists Research Project (Painting)
AL HELD an American abstract expressionist painter known for hard edged paintings. This amazing piece of art is a huge colorful and complex piece of art. The geometric abstract art projects a tormented vision of space. The confident use of symmetry is humanistic and appealing. The colors used are enough to make one find himself among excellent piece of art.
This painting of Eric Fischl, caught my eye because of its dramatic effects. The kind of astonished face of the woman in the picture depicts a real life situation. I think that Fischl was at the scene when he got the idea of painting this piece of art or it could be him who the woman is looking at shockingly. It is possible that he scared the woman and caught that time in this lovely real life portrait. He has painted it in such depth that you can see the shadows on the car and even the color tone of the woman’s face shows that part of her face is in the shade of the car.
This second painting is Joan Brown’s image of a woman waiting in a Theatre Lobby. I really liked the prominent features of the figure of the woman in this painting. This painting show the feelings of frustrations on the woman’s face may be because of waiting for a longer period of time. The posture portrays her discomfort because of sitting on a stool and not on a comfortable chair. The bright colors used and the detail of outline really makes everything stand out separately.
This picture on the left is known as Beth Aleph and was painted in the 1960s. Morris Louis, the artist of this piece of art, seems to be painting an abstract expression of vertical down pouring lines. They portray a curtain waiting to be drawn and reveal something behind it. The most amazing thing is that how the colors stand apart without mixing up into each other even though they seem to be just flowing from top to bottom. These rich colors used by the artist have a magnetizing effect on the observer.
JOHN GRAHAM specializes in pastel portraits of pets, human and wild life with aesthetic strokes of paintbrush. He creates marvelous portraits with the use of oil on canvas in such a marvelous impact created an abstract impression with a dreamlike mystery the strange juxtaposition is fantastic and eye catching. I was fascinated by the impression given by the young lady hugging the dog. Her impression is trying to convey the typical bohemian presence in the art of the twenties. The naturalist portrait of the lady depicts a real still life.
This wonderful piece of art painted in 1951 belongs to a famous artist Ellsworth Kelly. It illustrates a simple pattern of regular shapes of squares, which is very modern. Moreover, as its name, “Colors for a Large Wall” depicts it can be used to display on larger walls. If observed closely you can see the different panels painted and attached together in an uncomplicated color scheme, which could be used to cover a huge space. The uniqueness of this painting that it is not just one canvas painted into several colors rather it has many canvases painted and put together to create a piece of art, and also the basic character of the picture pulled me towards it.
CICLY BROWN a young British painter who has high regards for painters. Her theme is love, sex and nature. She has used oil on canvas very colorfully. The background of nature with the lovers, portray an amazing treat for the eye and appeals the soul. This abstract plot seems innocent and sophisticated the colors have energized the canvas. One could get lost in it for hours. She has transformed violence into glamour. The hidden symbol in the painting puts it among her masterpieces.
This piece of art, which at a first glance appears to be a scene from a children’s story book, when glared upon closely is not. It is, “A Dilly Dally with Pretty Sally” and was painted by a famous artist Phyllis Bramson. It portrays an intense scene of intimacy between human and an animal and more, which is presented in pastel colors so as to create an illusion of innocence. The flowers and the tree like a beanstalk create beauty in the illustration and one can presume that it is a naïve piece of art. The natural yet bright colors used attract observers towards it and when approached closer shows the eroticism that it depicts.
The next piece of art is an example of still imagery of life painted by Donald Sultan. Since the picture is simply black and white, it gives the viewer the impression of death. The artist could have used others colors to create beauty in the image so as to symbolize unhappiness. This image gives a feeling of sadness or dullness when viewed upon. The thing about this picture that attracted me is the detail of the flowers on the vase showing that it is a glass vase and not any other type, but if I analyze it cannot be a glass vase because then it would have also been black taking the image of the surrounding, but then Sultan just made it white to show that it is a glass vase.
Barry Me Gee was a painter and a graffiti artist. He invented imagery in art work. His theme is Mexicali, muralist and tramp art. His street name is twist, which also is the name of one of his most beautiful work of art. This painting is eye catching and creates a feeling of cheerfulness and brightens up the atmosphere. The picture is a typical Mexican origin creation of a strange visual language. It portrays a sort of pale legendry observation.
This gorgeous piece of art is painted by Lari Pittman, an artist of the 20th century. The colors used are very vibrant and images show iconography in the painting. The eyes drawn makes you feel as if the painting is looking back at you. Moreover the depth in the colors used by the artist show that it requires a large number of quotes to develop this master piece. This painting displays dreamy, melancholy proclivity, as the eyes seem a bit gloomy and it seems like a dream because of the abstractness.
David Bates is a narrative painter. He has a thrilling style of telling a story through colorful paintings in a very simplified manner. The lush painterly approach is a clear picture of the tragic Katrina the overwhelming portrayal of the horror of life and most severe tragedy is recalled in the memory. The destruction of property and displacement of people found on the canvas arouses emotional devastation. The painting represents the spectrum of human experience which portrays both horror and life.
Camille Rose Garcia: Her theme exhibits paranoiac fairy tales. The astonishing painting shows animation blended with colorful nature. The picture tells a story with color, glitter which is glazed over wallpaper. The use of silver in the painting represents twilight, which gives a stunning look to the picture. This also arouses an aesthetic sense of beauty away from painful realities.
This replica of a photograph taken by camera, is painted by April Gornik. It is simply a charcoal painting, and shows the time when the sun has set and night is appearing. Upon observing it closely it also gives the impression of being in the shade of the trees and looking far ahead. A true compliment to its name “Palatine Shade” would be that it seems the artist was present in the area when she painted it. The most intriguing thing about this painting is that how close one can get to create a true imitation of the real landscape, just like a photograph taken by a high definition camera.
This painting on the right, very different from the rest of the artists, is painted by Leon Golub. The theme depicts violence, bloodshed and evils in living beings. It portrays torture towards the person, who is a woman, under the brank. The red color adds to the feeling of cruelty towards the victim. Looking at this illustration by Golub, I was traumatized by the brutality of man towards women. The various spaces of white in the painting show that it is a lithographic image.
