Fashion Trend Analysis: Less is More
It (business) will never go back to the way it was because it’s a new game and these are new times, and it’s good because a lot of people that were in there shouldn’t have been. There was too much of everything. Fashion drives the business, not volume.
Fashion is always changing. This statement could be interpreted as carrying a two-fold meaning. Firstly, it hints at the changing trends. Secondly, it means the manner in which the process of manufacturing is carried out has transformed. This transformation has brought about modifications in the way we define and know fashion.
Fashion trends change with great pace. Sometimes, we find ourselves being exposed to unique styles. And then we witnessed such time periods where fashion has taken on a regressive form. In the 21st century, many of us find ourselves reverting back to the fashion of the 1980s. However, today fashion has undergone one particular change and that has revolutionized the way we shop. The emphasis on quality has been this defining change. Quality is taken here as the adherence to the latest fashion trends. Today, it is not just about having sufficient amount of clothes to make you go through your routine. Clothes have become more than just a necessity. Today, they have become a means of making a fashion statement. People always give preference to quality over quantity.
The production process has taken on a different shape. Instead of putting time and effort into manufacturing excess of items, the emphasis has shifted to maintaining the highest standards. A designer’s popularity is based on their designs, cuts and fittings. Therefore, a business today does not run solely on laborers that perform tasks such as stitching, measuring etc. A business invests a great deal in hiring designers who can bring forth stylish and trendy wear. The success of a designer and his business hinges on how much it can appeal to the masses. The greater its popularity in setting trends followed globally, the greater the profits it earned.
Thus, it is befitting when Allen B. Schwartz comments that the world of fashion has changed forever. The unnecessary attention paid to large inventories has been done away with. The rule that the greater the amount of quantity sold, the greater would be the success attained does not have any place in today’s world. Prices are driven by the creativity and style of designs. This attracts more buyers and the business grows through word of mouth.
