Numerous studies and research have been made about the impacts of art to the society not only in the past, but in contemporary times, as well. Art in generals has contributed to the many features noted in the society that convey messages and information relating to various aspects that touch on societal, economic, as well as political contexts. The range of art is broad that constitutes of paintings, sculptures, drawings and music among others that have been used to convey meaning regarding certain issues that appear cultural, philosophical or social related. The filed of art work in general entails creativity and innovation that has managed to present different themes and messages to the audience and viewers of such artistic products and pieces. Depending on the developments that occur in the society, artists have been able to present the different themes that replicate many issues that affect humanity in their daily lives. Art, therefore, has been able to communicate and relay messages in different ways concerning the society at large. Art that existed and pioneered the industry in many pieces of arts such as sculptures, paintings, and drawings among other have presented varied themes and information that dominated the times that such art was produced. Both ancient and modern artists in many occasions display and reflect on what transpires in the society even though there has been observed slightly differences in the artistic work that dominated the ancient times as well those that are presented in the modern times. However, this paper presents a comparison of art work between Claude Monet titled Grainstack (Sunset) made on 1891 and that of Victor Brauna titled Acolo made in 1949 and show how different themes are presented in society through their work.
Both pieces of work are paintings that have been made in different styles to carry and give meaning. They have used different techniques of art including the paint. Experts in the field of art explain that a good piece of artwork has to be able to carry and communicate meaning over many years to the generations to come. The two pieces conform to that as they have high quality artistic features. The pieces display a balanced approach that has encompassed most of the artistic style such as balanced use of color and good finishing that make them relay the messages and themes in them with much ease to the audience of the pieces. It is imperative to note that artistic pieces have to be appealing to the audience that will enable them analyze the piece and relate to the daily lives, and the themes that are associated with the articles without any challenge (Aronson & Elizabeth, 2012). In comparison of the two articles, Grainstack by Monet and Acolo by Brauna, they present many similarities and differences in terms of the themes that they present, and the styles used to create the articles. This has made each remain unique and appealing due to the styles used. Grainstack presents an image of a traditional thatched house that is placed within an agricultural field that is full of plantation. The background of the image is the natural world presented where there is light from the sunset, and depicting the clouds uniquely. It presented a picture of nature as it would be seen taking care of the natural world, and also the human attributes that enable the pictures convey and relay messages and themes in the society. The message presented from Grainstack is that of a farming community that display various cultural elements with them such as through the house that is found in the middle of the plantation. It is possible for viewers to create the lifestyles and other various themes by analyzing the image that is presented. Farming is an important part and activity that happens in the society that impacts greatly on other issues of life. The artists balanced the use of color and dimensions that make the picture make meaning and sense to the audience at the first glance (Monet, 2014). The colors used in different parts of the pictures that include both bright and dark colors make it possible to display certain elements such as the sun and clouds that present nature in the image. The house is well placed and balanced in the center of the painting and it uses oil painting technique.
On the other hand, the work by Brauna, Acolo, presents a piece that was made slightly later after that of Grainstack. It presents features that display the developments that had started to form the industry of art witnessed, also in other forms and departments of the society, as well. It presents the modern elements noted through the use of color and quality of the finishing of the image. It presents the image of a human being that has a mask on the head that resembles the ancient gods and deities’ that people worshiped, and related to them differently. The background of the image is of the same cream color, and this makes the painting to be viewed without ease to the audience and viewers of the picture (Brauner, 2014). The entire body of the painting uses a mixture of color in different parts of the painting that make different elements noticed within the painting. The painting is clear that presents and makes it easy for the audience to tell different messages and themes that result from the piece. Numerous themes are presented from close study of the piece such as religious beliefs, and lifestyle of the people in the past.
In conclusion, artistic works and features can be analyzed from different angles that can display both the visual and non- visual elements and meanings given to them. Innovation and creativity are two key factors that contribute to artists producing a great piece of works that can appeal to a large audience, and, therefore, lead to maximum benefits and profits from artistic works. Artistic works made from both the ancient and modern times have displayed and contributed greatly to the benefits that accrue from art and the pieces from both eras have fulfilled the requirements and desires in equal measure. Artists have to be supported to promote and advance the profession into greater heights that make the community in general appreciates the work that artists do in the society.
