Self-evaluation
What has changed in your work and process since midterm?
I feel I can appreciate the artistic medium much more now and can gauge my thoughts much better when concentrating on the subject matter involved.
How have your thoughts about what you might do differently post-midterm worked for you? What progress do you feel you have made?
After evaluating certain artistic tendencies, I feel I can write much better about art apart from using certain techniques which were previously unknown to me. I feel I have made substantial progress in this regard and my artistic technique is much improved.
What surprised you most during this class?
Perhaps the direct nature of the instruction clearly enabled me to voice and shares my own ideas. In class participation was also strikingly different when compared with other classes and this meant that I could integrate much better with others and this made me enrich myself in the process.
Which of the assigned readings were most interesting to you, and why?
Vasari’s ‘The Lives of the Artists’ was definitely something which will remain with me for a long time. The biographies of all those great artists showed me how rich art is and how one can continue to appraise and evaluate their work. One can learn immensely from such a magisterial book.
Which of the assigned readings had the most impact on your work (individual and/or collaborative) for this class, and why?
The readings on collective art especially those to do with techniques were extremely interesting and had a huge impact on my work both as an individual but also collectively. This was principally due to the fact that I learnt a lot of techniques which improved my art skills immensely. What parts of what you learned during this class do you think you will carry into your future life?
My skills in art have improved immensely through this course. I will definitely carry this over into my future life.
Explain your response in words someone who didn't take the class would understand.
The class is hugely interesting and rewarding and will transform the way you think about art.
