James Holmes has been indicted of opening fire in a teemed theater at a midnight showing of the Batman movie on July 20th, killing 12 people and wounding 58 others. The rage of the attack, setting and sheer magnitude was more than any other in the country’s history. This encounter shocked even a nation largely habituated to random flare-ups of violence. After the shooting spree, 12 people were confirmed dead and more than fifty hospitalized with diverse scales of injuries.
The victims of the shooting incident who were successfully identified included Jon Blunk, Sgt. Jesse Childress of the Air Force Staff, Micayla Medek, Six Year old Veronicah Moser, Alex Sullivan, Rebecca Wingo, Alex teves, AJ Boik, John Thomas Larimer, a US Navy Sailor and Matt McQuinn. Apparently the mother of the six year old Veronica, Ashley Moser, was also shot and left in critical condition with a bullet in the throat and in the abdomen and wasn’t aware of her daughter’s death by the time the reporters were gathering the information about the shooting incident. The US sailor killed in the incident had worked for the Navy for about six months and the Air Force Staff also killed in the incident was a reservist on dynamic task with 310 Force Support Squadron. Alex Teves had just received his master’s degree in counseling psychology while Rebecca Wingo worked at a restaurant in Aurora. John Blunk was only 26 years old and was killed while trying to protect his girlfriend. Cowden a father of three was also killed in the incident leaving his family with a batch of reminiscences.
The whole country received the information about the deadly act with incredulity and even as they tried to come to terms with the reality, fingers were pointed towards different sections regarding the incident. Some people blamed the police for not taking apposite action when the hazard warnings were issued while others blamed the university where Holmes was studying for failing to tackle the issue passably before it hit the roof. The executor was arrested but a cloud of angst filled the atmosphere as relatives and friends of the victims were trying to come to terms with the incident. Friends and family members of the victims visited the scene where they laid flowers and crosses for the departed souls.
