The last decade has seen the global trend towards acknowledging children and young people’s right to be consulted and also to participate in matters which affect them and their lives. Currently, children have the right to be consulted in matters that affect their life. The fact that there has been growing interest in understanding the welfare of children and also the creation of children protection act which protects the rights of children has led to many studies being done in relation to children. The new sociological perspectives about children emphasize that children have the right to share their experience on whether to participate in research or not. Children nowadays have the right either accepts to participate or refuse to participate in research activities. This is enshrined in the child protection act. Alderson (2005).
Children are always seen as incompetent and unable to make rational decision. This is why they are protected by the children protection act which was enacted in order to reduce child abuses that were associated with exploitation of children for use in the research studies. According to Hicks protection is defined as protecting children who are at risk by removing them from their families and then providing subsequent care.
This article also examines some of the potential problems always associated with parental consent. Some of the potential problems include; the assumption that children are unable to understand; the parental consent is justified because it is believe that children are unable to make rational decision on their own. They are totally unable to analyze the benefits and risks associated with participating in research activities. This further necessitated the establishment of the child protection act which was to protect them from being used in research forcefully.
The child’s aid society is a government funded agency based in Canada. The agency was first established in Toronto. The agency has always been responsible for family support, child placement, adoption and foster care. Other organizations that take care of the vulnerable children include the children’s aid society. This organization helps the abused and the neglected children to lead happier and safer lives through raising funds for essential programs and other services which are not funded by the government. It is estimated that approximately 76,000 Canadian children are currently under the protection of the various provincial child and family service agency.
The cord of ethics protects children from exploitation. Under the code of ethics, the social workers have the duty to report if suspected abuse or neglect of the child is experienced. This implies that the cord of act provides policies which protect the child from abuse. The cord of ethics ensures that both the physical and the psychological well-being of the child are guaranteed and respected. Alderson and Morrow (2004).
The social determinants of health include the situations in which people are born and live in. some of the social determinants of health include: distribution of resources, economic stability of the region, the living standards and global governance among others.
