In traditional perspective the word “team” defines a stable organized group of people engaged in common activity, well-versed in each other’s style of work and level of competence, familiar with each other's habits, knowledge, abilities and so on. Professionally designed teamwork facilitates the working process of the whole organization.
According to the scholar of team effectiveness, Richard Hackman, every team, in order to provide first class service, has to be well structured and organized, team members have to obtain certain skills and experiences, understand their goals, have access to the necessary materials and trainings and the most important of these is to practice together on the permanent basis. Such structure is focused on accomplishing successful performance due to the perfect cooperation of the team members. MIT Professor Deborah Ancona promotes the idea that participants have to interact not only with each other, but also outside of the group in order to achieve the common goal. Both methods are beneficial for the design of the work inside of the team, however in today’s fast-growing business environment it is important to be able to evolve and catch up in order to produce quality services. This is when the author appeals to the verb “teaming” explaining its importance for the organizations where employees work in shifts or gather in teams in order to work on a project, forming new teams with every next project. Teaming is specified by the main rules of teamwork, and defines the certain way of behavior for the participants, in such situation when the time is limited, and the members have to collaborate as a stable team even though it was just created.
At the beginning of the article the author determines the purpose of the reading, his goal is to explain the essential tools of teaming as a process, highlight its advantages in comparison with the other tactics, illuminate the benefits from the perspective of the historical context and, most importantly, give the reasons why this process is the most beneficial for the modern organizations. Founding on the facts provided by the author, we understand that in order to withstand the competitiveness and achieve the success modern organizations developed new accomplished levels of collaboration which required new ways of interaction among the employees. Working in a team had to be updated with more structured, mobile process – teaming. Being based on the essentials of teamwork teaming requires instantaneous adaptation of all the participants of the working process. Team members not only need to obtain certain skills and experiences, they also have to be prepared to share the knowledge, gain trust and communicate with each other like the group that cooperated together and practiced for a long time. Moreover, they must be ready to form and disband such groups whenever it is necessary.
The last answered question in the article was why managers would be interested in teaming. Basing on the reading it is easy to assume that this new practice is less time consuming, unlike the original teamwork where the manager has to pay extra attention in order to design the team. According to the author it is also the key to organizational learning, as corporations evolve and grow extremely fast, participate in different kinds of activities and practices, the new way of learning must be implemented.
