Artist's Statement Essay Sample

My composition skills significantly improved over the semester by enhancing one’s ability to verbalize what one has captured in images into a literary form that could be shared to others. This skills was improved through learning vocabulary terms that are most appropriate and to apply these terminologies in written discourse; where, not only photographers would understand, but also the general public, who do not share any formal academic background on the subject.
There were various digital camera controls that were learned such as: sitting the camera for the first shoot; setting the camera to manual focus; setting the camera to manual exposure; sensors; bits, pixel and bit depth; sensor size and file size; image size; and white balance, among others.
As a result of the course, I developed photo editing skills such as getting started with CS6; Adobe Bridge; making contact sheet; saving Jpeg files as tiff; and editing image sizes; and editing level and curves in adobe CS6 program.
Overall, I have learned to be more discerning in my choices for images to photograph; meaning, there should be justified rationale behind deciding to capture an image and the way images are to be captured. I developed a sense of style and keenness in perspectives through the concepts learned. As such, when there are challenges encountered with issues that arise in shooting, I am able to deal with these issues more effectively through the use of editing and controls that have actually improved my overall photography skills and style in a more professionalized manner.
