Assignment 1: Cultural Communication
China is one of the countries with most preserved and unique cultural and communication practices in the world. The culture ranges from the mode of dressing, facial and verbal communication as well as the relationships formed between colleagues. China is a communist state located in East Asia with a population of approximately 1.3 billion as per the Census report in 2004. Han Chinese compose of the most of the population as they represent approximately 91.8 percent of the total population while. Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese languages are the most spoken language in China and as such, if a person must translate everything in Chinese if interested in doing business in this state.
Chinese people value collectivism as opposed to individualism whereby they are concerned about the welfare of a group for instance family, school, and organization among other groups, even to the extent of remaining quiet even when a person’s feelings are hurt. The people value Confucius teachings and loosing ‘face’ or respect to the public is a great deal and thus, the Chinese people work hard to gain respect from others. When exchanging gifts, certain aspects should be observed. For instance, it is advisable not to wrap gifts in white, blue and black colors, and objects such as handkerchiefs, scissors and straw sandals should be avoided.
In greeting etiquettes, handshake is the common greeting method whereby the oldest person is always greeted first. Formal communication is also used when talking to business associates, elder people or meeting a person for the first time. Eye contact is always avoided while greeting someone as it is associated with disrespect and also when addressing an older person or supervisors at the workplace. As such, people have a tendency of looking down while greeting a respectful person. Such etiquettes are practiced even at the workplace, whereby formal communication is used and also a professional mode of dressing is highly observed. However, in china, people do not discuss business issues during mealtimes or at social events and appointments to discuss business should be made for a longer period before the actual meeting.

Assignment 3: motivation and Theory X/Y
The score of the test indicates that my management style is that derived by theory Y traits. Managers with this trait are characterized by the fact that they believe that employees are self motivated and ambitious and as such, they should be allowed to exercise self control. The managers also believe that if employees are allowed to exercise self control, they are more likely to be productive than when they are closely supervised. In addition, theory Y managers work hard to assist their employees in mastering skills, achieving their job expectations and developing working relationships. In general, theory Y managers have positive thinking towards the employees than theory X managers.
