Introduction
I agree with Elizabeth Kubler-Ross in her expression and attitude towards death due to several reasons. Elizabeth gives a clear and logical flow of activities concerning grief as well as care of patients during death. She formulated model on the five stages of grief. Her expression and attitude about death is well elaborated in by the five stages of grief. Her views on death mainly deal with the aspects of grieving and the psychological trauma people goes through when others die. She clearly elaborated the ways in which emotional aspects relating to death and dying can be handled in order to enable the victims recover from such moments of sorrow and bereavement. She also explained how the victims can handle the emotional trauma and stress relating to death.
This author clearly elaborated the aspects of denial as one of the attitudes towards death by most people. The act of denial is expressed by the individual in refusing to accept that someone or others have died. This attitude of denial makes an individual difficult believe the death of others, therefore, causing a lot of psychological traumas and stress in individuals. She argued that the aspects of death are not always easy to avoid in real life situations agree with her views in relation to denial of death because I also find it very difficult to deny or evade the course of the death of my friends and relatives. This aspect of death is something that must stay with us for sometimes before we forget since the memories of the friends or relatives will always stay with us for some time.
Elizabeth explained that anger the experience of death may result in the attitude and feeling of anger. The victims may be infuriated by the death of their close relatives or friends. The victims are often emotionally upset due to circumstances of death of people in the society. "Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death". This information concerning anger is helpful to me because I will be able to handle people with emotional stress in the case of death of their close friends or relatives. This is of the essence in managing upset people in the cases of death and grief in the society. This will also help an individual to be non-judgmental when dealing with the people who are annoyed or emotionally upset as a result of death of others in the society.
The bargaining stage of great shows how individuals tries to struggle with situations of death in life. This helps in showing the beliefs of the individuals about God and what they expect to happen when they die. The aspects of bargaining in relation to grief and death may not help in providing solutions to such situations. This stage of grief in death is help because it helps me to understand the way in the dying people may end up having some personal conversations before they die due to the aspects of religious beliefs in their lives. The aspects of bargaining provide no reliable or sustainable solutions in times of death.
The writer also elaborates the aspects of depression in relation to grief and death of people in the society. The feeling of depression is often associated with sadness when the individuals die. Death is associated with a lot of fear and uncertainty leading to depression in the victims of such cases of death in life. The aspect of depression is very important to us because it enables us to handle various situations in life .The feeling of depression shows that a person or an individual begun the process of accepting the reality of death of their close friends or relatives. "It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth - and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up, we will then begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had"(28) .The feeling of depression is of the essence in facilitating the process of counselling the bereaved or grieved people in the society. This is of particular help to me in determining the right time to facilitate encouragement and guidance to my bereaved relatives and friends in matters of death.
Elizabeth also provides a clear elaboration in relation to acceptance of death by both the dying people and those left on earth. She argued that those people facing death do accept the fact of death before their actual death takes place. This concept is of the essence in helping the sad or grieving individuals to handle the levels of stress related to death of their friends and relatives. The concept of acceptance of death is, therefore, essential in managing grief and sorrow related to death of individuals.
The views of death and grief surrounding deaths play a very important role in helping people manage the psychological trauma related to death. This is important especially when designing counselling sessions for the people who are affected heavily by the deaths of their close friends or relatives. Her views on cases and situations surrounding death help greatly in relation to managing the stress and grief associated with death and dying. Her views on death are also important in helping us appreciate the fact that we have limited time live on this earth.
