A marriage union is anchored on faithfulness and a promise to withhold the fidelity of the house to one partner for a lifetime. Society has always held that infidelity is a wrong thing if not hurtful to the people. It tends to affect the marriage if it is discovered and if the marriage does not end peacefully, then the people leave in hate and fear of maiming or even killing each other. Sex is a pleasure, and past experiences with specific people tend to stick to the mind.
There is a notion that states that individuals that engage in sex tend to grow fonder to each other. This entails that sex in marriage is necessary to unite and strengthen the bond between married couples. It works because of the intimacy involved with the closeness that one feels in the adventure. The memories can be carried for a long time. This is because humans tend to remember the pleasures of life. The memories come alive by seeing the people, and this is the reason that sight rekindles the intimate memories.
Chopin tries to explain in her short story “The Storm” of how two people met and even though one of them was married, they remembered their love making adventures and therefore ventured into it. Claxita is married to Bobinot, and they live in a small town. The time when the storm was coming, Bobinot was out of the house with his son and Claxita was left home to tend to the house chores as it was the tradition. Therefore when the storm came, it blocked Bobinot from reaching the house and therefore they had to find shelter. Claxita on the other hand rushed about to salvage her husband’s pants from being blown away by the storm.
The time when Claxita is on the porch is when Alcee her former love shows up. He is running from the storm and looking for shelter. They happen to be the only ones in the room, and therefore they reminisce on their rendezvous love making. “the roar of the elements made her laugh as she lay in his arms. She was a revelation in that dim, mysterious chamber; as white as the couch she lay upon.”. It was a mistake for them to meet before the storm since they would be trapped in the house and remember their sexual acts.
It happens that Claxita and Alcee engage in an infidel affair, but they neither seem to care nor feel the guilt. They stress that everyone was happy and beside the fact that they were dealing it illegally, they are not afraid to do it in her marital house. This shows that infidelity in the era was not considered a dangerous act as much as the other party did not find out. Claxita, who could have refused the act even, imagines sleeping on the chair with Alcee. The daunting question is what they could have done if Bobinot would have decided to come home with the storm. Claxita and Alcee are evidently still in love with each other; it is the reason they sexually satisfy each other.
It is thought that a man cannot only have one woman and consider her a favorite. This is because women are made to be favorites and therefore a man can have more than one favorite woman. This is the reason that a man identifies a woman from hundreds of them, how is the identification done? This is the daunting question, but it is clearly highlighted in Anne Sexton’s “For My Lover, Returning to His Wife.” It is said that “Cast out from your favorite Aggies.” This means that a man has had so many women and even though he chose one, he had a large number of favorites.
There is a symbolic representation of sexual activities between a man and woman. This is highlighted by the line “Set forth three children under the moon” “Done this with her legs spread out.” (Sexton). Children are conceived through sex, and this is something that Sexton is free to announce. The relevance of the line is also to show that sex is enjoyable, this is because if it was not, she would not have endured the pain to sire three cherubs. This indicates that sexual adventures were professed from a long time, and they have been used to rekindle lost love as well as to sire children.
There is pleasure in sex, and when the right woman is in the picture, then it has to be handled with the necessary vigor. This is where the woman has to be treated to the sex like life depends on it. She has to be handled with care so that the act cannot be demeaning and that she may feel appreciated. This is why Sexton insists that “She is so naked and singular” this means that she is ready to receive the action and that she is bound to get deeply engrossed.
“She is the sum of yourself and your dream” indicates that the woman is what the man deserves and that she is the one that the man had been dreaming of. Therefore she needs to be taken care of sexually by the man. The man has to be in control and direct her emotions towards the necessary direction. This is the reason that the text insists that “Climb her like a monument, step after step” the sexual journey at this stage should not be hurried. The woman is ready, and therefore every stage of the adventure has to be covered fully.
It is stipulated that men hold the key to sexual pleasure. This is because of what they possess that tend to control the sexual activities when with women. “The last railspike, which has turned Gold in their hands. Gigantic forepleasure lives” it is meant that sex in this art is directed by the men and the gold rail spikes that hold pleasure. This is because men find it pleasant to ease the adventures and strain of the day by engaging in sexual pleasures.
The poem highlights that sex has no any other meaning rather than just pleasure and killing time. This is in highlighted by “A wrist watch by the bed to see how much Longer we have left” it is also evident that sex in this era is meaningless. Sex is just a tool or excuse that brings two people together, “Although we come together, nothing will come of us” . This shows that sex is not as important as it is thought. Sex is a covenant that is shared between married people. The way it is presumed in this text is different and is highlighted to lack meaning. It is only used for the pleasures of the people involved and whether it is enjoyed or not, no one cares.
The text has a number of notions that are against what I know and believe. Marriage should not just happen for convenience purposes. Claxita could have loved and made love to Bobinot not only he is her husband and she wanted to have a child with him but because love compelled her. The opposite is what takes place when she makes love to Alcee during the storm because they have an undying love for each other. Sex in the text has been used as a necessity while in my belief it should be used to seal the marriage covenant as well as for the enjoyment and bonding purposes of the couples.
