1.Diaphoresis is a medical condition of the body that an individual often sweats because of a drug side effect or symptom of a disease. Motor dysfunction has associations with the nerve and muscle center responsible for movement; this term defines the improper functioning of the muscle. Cyanosis is a condition related to the low supply of oxygen in the blood where the skin color of an individual as well as mucous membranes appears to have purple or blue coloration. In a situation where the cell has a potassium concentration gradient and no net charge imbalance, there is no membrane potential. However, if the membrane were to be permeable particularly to a more concentrated ion on one side of the membrane, the ions would move to the lower concentration side of the membrane causing a net charge imbalance and membrane potential. Therefore, a resting membrane potential is generated.
4.The electric potential changes gradient due to the mass flow of sodium ions in the cell hence the rapid increase in the membrane potential until it reaches the resting potential when the channels shut and therefore no action potential through the same path. The primary function of the action potential is to trigger the neurons thus quick rising and falling of membrane electric potential in cells.
5.Through propagation and triggering of the neuroendocrine cell types and muscles, the sodium ions through the voltage-gated sodium ion channel initiate the action potential.
6.A neuron balances charges and ion concentrations through a sequential opening of channels determined by electrical charge changes; tetrodotoxin binds the voltage-gated sodium channels which block sodium ions passing hence inhibiting action potential. The neuron, therefore, cannot balance the ion concentration and costs hence inhibiting sending of signals down the nerve for communication.
7.The tissues of puffer fish that Dr. Westwood ate contained tetrodotoxin which has a concrete action to block the voltage-gated sodium ion channels, this inhibits neuron communication because it cannot establish the balance of ion concentrations. The numbness on lips, mouth spreading to the face is because of lack of communication through the central nervous system and brain by the neurons.
8.Paralysis involves muscle function which has the direct connection with tissues and cell connected through the central nervous system. Dr. Westwood experienced disease because neuron failure to communicate with the cell tissues and muscles through the central nervous system hence muscle dysfunction.
