I am writing this letter, to let you know about my experience here in England as William’s warrior. As one of William’s soldiers, our target is to overthrow Harold Godwinson as the king of England. This battle is one of my greatest encounters as a soldier. I have developed a personal relationship with William as one of his soldiers an aspect that makes me realize how positive it is to be present in this battle. We built Wooden boats to help us cross the sea in order to attack Harold and his army. However, when we arrived, we found that the sea was surrounded with horses and Harold army but we managed to get to the land (Malam, 2007).
Our main battle focus after arriving was to formulate a way to enable Harold and his men to leave the ``brick wall” which they sheltered in. Sheltering in the brick wall made it hard for us to confront them because the wall was built ``uphill”, thus making Harold’s team have an advantage over us because they were shooting downhill while we were shooting uphill thus many of our arrows did not meet our target. However, William managed to make Harold think that we were afraid of him by retreating and when they came after us, we attacked them because they had left the ``brick wall”.
Our horses are very efficient compared to those being used by Harold’s soldiers. Our horses are special and can stand a lot of weight while maintaining a high speed an aspect that is giving us an upper hand when attacking Harold’s soldiers. Further, the horse have been fitted with ``special horse saddles” that hold each soldier firmly onto the house to avoid falls during attacks from Harold and his soldiers.
Do not worry about my safety dear. William has provided us with Helmets to protect our faces and head during direct confrontation with Harold’s soldiers. The Helmets are metallic and are offering great protection. We also have wooden shields which we use to prevent ourselves from harm when we are very close with Harold soldiers. I know you may be wondering whether we have soldier uniforms. No we do not dress in uniforms. During the attacks, we wear our ordinary clothes (Musset, 2005).
We are using metallic swords, spears, javelins as weapons and they are very efficient. We have killed a lot of Harold men so far. I know you heard a rumor that our commander William had died but it was a lie to fool Harold and his men. In regard to food, we carried food and wines in our wooden boats .However, some of our men usually go to search for food in the afternoons (Malam, 2007).
You should agree with me that William is right in engaging in this battle with Harold .We all know that William should be the leader and not Harold. It is my view that he had the right to fight for his right to be a king, and we as the people who believed in him as a good king, decided to extend our assistance to him by serving him as soldiers.
It is my hope that this battle will be remembered by many throughout England in the future. I would like a monument to be erected to facilitate the remembrance of this battle .The monument should offer information about this battle and its impact on England as a whole. I will be seeing you soon my love.
Loving husband
