The aim of this research paper is to assess whether individuals choose their lifestyles. In order to assess the selection of lifestyle, a thorough theoretical underpinning will be done from the research of Barkway (2013). In addition, the factors will also be discussed that motivate an individual to make changes or decisions regarding his or her lifestyle.
Selection of lifestyle is heavily dependent upon the individuals as they have their respective choices when it comes to health issues. The fact remains that individuals make a difference when they clear understanding about the facts about health and the consequences of not making the correct choices. Creation of a lifestyle is a motivation that an individual would have as a result of an assessment of surroundings or environment .
One of the factors that have been actively resulting in higher influence over individual to make healthy choices for their lifestyle is the consideration they give to their health issues. In other words, as stated in the research by Barkway (2013), “a person’s motivation to engage in healthy behaviors depended on how severe they saw their problem and how susceptible they perceived themselves.
In addition, there are several factors that bring barriers within deciding and opting for individual’s health. These can be the difficulty of the treatment followed to help overcome health issues. Another factor that makes one to become conscious about their health and its related issues is the benefits that they can get by opting for a better lifestyle. Thus, it is essential to note that selection of lifestyle is clearly dependent upon the individual himself.
