Being A Housewife: Lack Of Career Or A Choice Critical Thinking Example

There is a common belief that most women opt to be housewives as a result of lack of a career to venture into. Most people will describe housewives as lazy and illiterate women who have no career rather than changing babies’ diapers at home and go shopping in the afternoon using of their husbands’ money. The theory behind this misconception is that housewives will sit at home and wait their husbands to work for them while they extravagantly spend money on luxurious clothing and jewelry without considering the effort and struggle the hubby has to go through to earn a living for the family.
A housewife is like a family manager who has to ensure every family member is comfortable before they leave in the morning to school, work or even travel. It is their duty to wake up early in the morning, prepare breakfast for the husband so that he will not be late for work and at the same time ensure that he is well groomed and prepared for the long day at work. At the same time, she has to prepare children for school by ensuring they eat breakfast before setting to school and that their lunch boxes are packed. She has to take the children to school and always be alert in case she gets any call from school concerning the health issues or academic problems involving any of the children. This means that such a woman has to carefully plan a schedule to follow concerning wake up time, what to prepare first and which means she will use to drop the children at school especially if they are in different schools. If a housewife was a lazy woman who expects everything to be done for her by the husband, then performing household chores which no career person can plan would be impossible.
Many people will argue that home chores are easy as it is just a matter of taking children to school, cleaning the house; cooking and afterwards, a housewife has a whole day to chat with friends or just lie on the couch and watch movies. The fact is that there is no work that is demanding like household chores. It includes the caretaker waking up earlier before everyone and retiring to bed after everyone has slept. A housewife will do the laundry which have different types of colors and dirt and hence have to be sought out categorically, do the house cleaning, has to go shop for the groceries and cook before the kids come back from school. In addition, there are housewives who act as managers for the family businesses. Hence they have to go and check on the ongoing activities such as family owned firms, farms and foreseeing the progress of online businesses. Such supervision does not require a person going to work in an office so that she will not be regarded as lazy stay at home wife.
Responsibilities of managing a home will require high costs of hiring home attendants such as house girls and nannies to take care of the children. These additional house helps will work efficiently but as a result of women instincts, a career woman may not feel comfortable leaving her children with another woman to take care of them. At such cases, many women have opted to leave their jobs and stay at home whereby they are able to look after their little ones without a stressful day of wondering what is going on at home especially if they left behind an infant who needs to feel the presence of their mothers. Many people do not understand the fact that children’ feel more comfortable and happy when they are close to their parents and this has proven to aid in a child’s mental and psychological development compared to when they have to stay in a day care or under the care of a baby sitter. At the same time, women have opted to assume the role of house helps in cases where the family wishes to reduce the costs involved in hiring a nanny and house girls.
The basic thing I have learnt about the life of a housewife is that they are always busy, although it is at home setting and thus, their day is filled with exhaustion which is even more than that of a woman working in a busy office. Also most of them have a double life of home managers and work at home women managing even multiple companies and at her same time ensuring their families are comfortable and well catered for at all times. Most housewives have even sacrificed on quitting their career jobs after agreeing with their spouses on the importance of the issue just to oversee the development of their families’ daily life. It is also worth noting that not many women can assume the role of a housewife and many have tried and failed. Hence it does not mean that simply because a woman is a housewife, she lacks a career or education or that she is lazy and dependent on their husbands but rather it is their choice to take care of their families in a different perspective. Therefore this decision should be respected instead of judging housewives on unsupported fallacies.
