Benchmarking activities
Benchmarking allows the comparison of other organizational operations and processes with those of the organization in question. Their best performers in the telecommunication field are made as benchmark partners. Their operations and procedures are studied and knowledge discovered used in the planning of the organizations objectives realization.
Benchmarking activities are crucial in planning process of the telecommunication enterprise. It arises from the fact that the comparison of other department or external company activities and process of implementation give a clear indication of the likely outcome should the same methodology be implemented (Letts et al., 2009). If a failure was realized by application of a particular process, then it is necessary that the same process is not employed or is refined to achieve a finer and effective process. In any case, the failures experienced by the benchmarked partner will be a lesson to the telecommunication organization undertaking the enterprise.
Objectives and goals of the company can be refined based on the benchmark activities. With benchmarking a decision is made on the area that will give the greatest leverage to the company. It gives an insight into the understanding of internal operations of the area being benchmarked hence help identify problems likely to be faced. Having understood the problems that a benchmarked partner faces, and then a plan on how to overcome the same is developed (Letts et al., 2009).
The successes that have been achieved in the field by a benchmarked partner have associated processes for the same. It is with this regard that adoption and refining of the same processes can be planned for and implemented for the success of the new project.
