Effective communication is relevant when it comes to the operation of a business. Successful businesses exhibit adequate communication systems for both the internal and the external environments. Our company has experienced tremendous growth from the time it began (three years ago) which has caused an expansion on it operations in addition to its human resources. However, there have been several conflicts in and among departments due to misunderstandings. Currently, there is conflict between the manufacturing and the marketing departments with regards to delivery.
One method, as highlighted by Newman, Ober and Ober (9), incorporating both formal and informal communication system in an organization assists in regulating the behavior of the members of staff, strengthens the relationship between the management and the employees and the relationship among the employees. The ideology is that, if one party feels that they are limited or is not being heard, it becomes difficult to establish a rapport that focuses on the achievement of the company’s strategic goals and objectives. Also, aligning the goals and objectives of each department to the company’s mission and vision will assist in encouraging both formal and informal forms of communication for the benefit of the company.
