Personal Statement
Professedly, the death penalty debate is perhaps one of the most heated debates that are ongoing. Several valid agreements have been put forward in favor of death penalty just like a plethora of valid arguments have been put forward against death penalty. Taking the proponents side, I am strongly opinionative that death penalty should be upheld for various reasons.
It is indubitable that death is perhaps most dreaded occurrence to virtually every human being. In this regard, it can be stated that the best way to deter crime is by instilling the notion of death in people. Even as several people argue that there are several incidences in which innocent people have been subjected to the capital punishment, there is no authoritative research findings that can be used to argue that there are indeed innocent people who have been subjected to death penalty. Ideally, the efficacy if any correction method taken for any law offender is only measurable on the ability of the procedure to incapacitate the law offender from offending the law. In this light, it can be viewed that capital punishment permanently incapacitates a law offender from indulging in criminal activities; an individual who kills another person and is executed after being proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt will never kill again. This inherently gives insight to the effectiveness of capital. Besides, it should be noted that the process of giving some a death penalty is very rigorous and its accuracy can be argues to 99% if not 100%- it is very unlikely for an innocent person to be executed.
In a much as I support the execution of people who commit capital offences I also contend that the execution of people who commit capital offenses inflicts undesirable pain to the families of the people executed. On the same note, I tend to think that if death penalty is very effective in deterring crime, there would not be any more crime; this implies that death sentence might not be as effective as it is purported
