1. Intentional harm to someone was the first tort committed. It was committed by George Walton. Dekker could sue Walton for slander because he was accused of stealing Walton’s hat. Since torts arise because of negligence or purposefulness, the crime could go both ways for both persons.
2. Walton could also sue Dekker for committing a tort and have him prosecuted for taking his hat. The tort would be res ipsa loquitur, which means that Dekker actions were negligent. The incident would not have occurred if he was not negligent.
3. In the third case, intentional harm was committed. Sinzant can sue Walton for causing him personal harm, which in his statement, may prove that it was done intentionally. Walton cut him off the road with the intention of confronting Sinzant; who he confused for Dekker.
4. Another tort is conversion. This was committed when Walton cut Sinzant off the road. Sinzant could sue for these actions too, and have Walton prosecuted. This is tantamount to criminal behaviour exhibited by Walton.
5. Another tort is false imprisonment. Walton held someone under unreasonable suspicion. Sinzant can sue Walton for holding him against his will. When Walton decided to make a citizen’s arrest, he was under the impression that Sinzant was a thief. This is unreasonable suspicion.
6. Another tort came in the form of Sinzant’s car being accidentally hit. In this case, Hightower can sue Sinzant for conversion. He unintentionally hit Sinzant’s car, which was not parked correctly at the side of the road. The destruction of property leads to the lawsuit.
7. Sinzant can also claim a tort of conversion as a result of Hightower’s driving. Hightower was under the influence of marijuana at the time. This is illegal, and he is liable for criminal prosecution.
8. Walton committed a negligent tort and is liable for a lawsuit from all the parties involved. By carrying out his actions, he jeopardized the safety of all those around him.
9. Walton committed battery on Sinzant. This tort is committed when he laid his hands on Sinzant after cutting him off the road. This is unlawful, and he might be liable for criminal prosecution.
10. When Walton knocked Sinzant unconscious, he unlawfully put him in his car. This is unlawful imprisonment, and Sinzant can sue him for this. It was while he was unconscious that Walton did this. This is a criminal offense, and he may be liable for prosecution.
