Bills of rights are very important in every society. It is worth noting that the provisions in the bill of rights protect individual liberties, which include freedom of religion, press, as well as speech. The Tenth Amendments is one of the parts of the bill of rights that poses greater limit on the power of the national government. These are because the tenth Amendments places boundaries on the powers that the federal government should have. It gives people and focus on federal power that is only enumerated in the constitution. If the constitution does not state the national government power then it is reserved as the power of the people of power of the state.
The First Amendment in the bill of rights should importantly be preserved. The first amendment in the constitution protects the liberties of people in various ways. The first Amendments protect people liberties through provision of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, petition and assembly, as well as free exercise of religion (Bodenhamer et al. 46). There are many Supreme Court cases that have tested the First Amendments. New York Times Company v. United Sates was one of the supreme courts cases that tested freedom of the press.
The media environment in the world today tends to eliminate other people from accessing information. The First Amendments guarantees citizen's access to information and news through freedom of the press. Media consolidation and narrowcasting are the greatest obstacles to enlightening the public. Narrowcasting refers to the dissemination of information and new to the audience in a small geographic area. In fact, it entails selecting the audience who are to access the information. For example, information is passed through the use of television, internet, social media, as well as radio (Bodenhamer 69). Media consolidation entails a situation whereby few organizations or individual control the share of mass media. More and more mass media ownership falls in the hands of the few. One of the examples of these threats is the fact that CBS Corporation is dominated by the few. In addition, recently in the Units states studies showed that six media giants control 90% of what people listen, watch or read. The sic companies include GE, New-Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, as well as CBS. The use of social media such as Fecebook and Twitter is another recent threat to freedom of the press.
The examples impeded public from becoming informed in the sense that they streamline the information to be broadcasted to the public. On the same note, what is trending in Facebook and Twitter can only be accessed by few individuals who have access to internet and social media accounts. The facts that joining social media is free prevented others who do not have the facilities.
Tightening border security is very important in the United States. One of the reasons for these is an aspect of security and ever rising terrorism threat. In addition, high rate of immigrants in the United States reduces the wages of low skilled employees (Arnold 20). The immigrants burden the financial budget of the nation prompting the need to secure borders. Presence of many immigrants undermines American democracy and political culture.
The best way to control to secure border is implementing a policy that will severe punish immigrants and other organization that encourage immigration. Building a wall is not a solution since relating with other nations is necessary. The policy should be focused on punishing those who hire illegal immigrants, arrest illegal immigrants, and fine the organizations that encourage immigrants heavily (Arnold 47). The arguments in favor are the aspects of taxation and earning of revenue through production. This path to earned citizenship could develop a permanent low-class society, which may reduce the per capita income in the United States.
