Theodore Roosevelt was born in famous and wealthy family in New York City on October 27, 1858, He was to be the second oldest of four children.
Since childhood, the future president didn’t show up by the great health and suffered from asthma. In late 1860 and early 1870 Roosevelt family made a trip to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. His primary education he received at home. Theodor was taught by his parents and tutors. He was brilliant in geography, history and good in biology.
In 1876 Theodore Roosevelt entered Harvard University, and in 1880 graduated. He did well in rhetoric courses, philosophy and science but didn’t prosper in Latin and Greek. At the university Theodor engaged in biology with great interest and was already and perfected naturalist. During the education he became interested in naval history. As a result he wrote research paper "Naval War of 1812". This book is about competition between fleets of Great Britain and the United States. The book was published in 1882 and received great approval for comprehensive coverage of events of war and good style. This book is considered one of the main a classic historical work. After graduating from Harvard, Roosevelt entered Columbia Law School.
Roosevelt was the first president who has shown interest in protection of wildlife. In 1903 he created the first bird reserve of Pelican Island. Together with William Hornadey founded the American Bison Society to preserve the bison. Roosevelt set sylvan service (United States Forest Service) (1905). At the time of his presidency in reserves and sanctuaries were transferred 785,000 km ². Roosevelt added, "Roosevelt corollary" to the Monroe Doctrine, which stated that only the United States can intervene in the affairs of Latin American countries, corruption of governments made it necessary.
Construction of the Panama Canal began at the Roosevelt’s times. The first agreement was reached with Colombia, which owned the province of Panama. After changing conditions of the Colombian government, the United States helped to decelerate independence of the Republic of Panama. Building of Canal was finished in 1914.
Roosevelt was the first president who invited a representative of Afro-Americans into the White House. It is very important to say that Theodor is the first among Americans who got the Nobel Peace Prize. He mediated the conclusion of the Russo-Japanese Peace Treaty of Portsmouth.
Theodore Roosevelt made the history as the first President with modern views. He revived the policy and gave it a new color. He had a strong connection with the public and he skillfully used the media to shape public opinion. He held election basing more on the personal than the political party unlike his predecessor.
One of the great of his initiations is establishment of strong foreign policy served the United States national interests. He was involved in Latin America to oversee the Panama Canal negotiations to establish for his country interests and kept stability in Latin region. He also worked at strengthen the United States Navy to have influence around the all world. The wide vision of world and global point of view are the main characteristics that made him a famous and great politician. Theodor Roosevelt without doubt is one of the greatest American presidents who left an historical trail after self.
