Biomedical Engineering is a specialized field of engineering where the Biomedical engineers combine engineering principles with biological and medical sciences to design and create devices, equipment, software and computer systems for use in healthcare. Biomedical engineering is one of the best careers because the engineer gives people better quality lives.
Biomedical engineers can work in positions in universities, industries, hospitals, research institutions and also in government regulatory agencies. In these places, the biomedical engineers can have careers as biomedical Research and development engineer, whose job is to work other engineers and healthcare professionals in coming up with biomedical solutions in a healthcare or healthcare product manufacturing environments (collegegrad.com). This career needs someone who is good in noticing problems and thinking of ways to solve those problems.
A person who has studied biomedical engineering can also work as a biomedical studies engineer is engaged in the development and the refining of processes that help to study data and improve user experiences for students studying biomedical engineering or health technology. A biomedical validation engineer offers general engineering support services for the production of health technologies collegegrad.com. At times, the biomedical engineer may head the technology and engineering department or team at a health care institution with the responsibilities being the technical repair and maintenance of healthcare equipment.
The design work that is performed in class equips the biomedical engineer with knowledge and skills to design equipment and provide solutions to pertinent healthcare challenges. The design knowledge helps the engineer to become an innovator with skills to cope up with new products.
A biomedical engineer can design devices such as artificial internal organs such as kidneys, machines to diagnose medical issues and some body parts or limbs such as prosthetics. Some of the most critical projects that biomedical engineers can engage in include coming up with a variety of technologies to carry out non-invasive surgeries say using laser technologies to help in the fight against cancers. Another good project would be coming up with improved patient-monitoring systems that help to alert the nurses and doctors when a given patient needs attention. Moreover, the development of highly responsive artificial limbs could help in the restoration of normal lives to people who lose limbs in varying motor accidents or those born with absent or deformed limbs.
I find the Biomedical Engineering field exciting because it brings the various advancements in science and engineering directly to where they matter most- the promotion of human health. I believe that in all other cases, science, technology and engineering all work to make the lives of people and the environment better (collegegrad.com). When one has studied biomedical engineering, they can develop good machines to help detect and treat deadly diseases such as cancers, high blood pressure, diabetes and many other diseases.
Many people are falling sick with these deadly diseases, and it is the duty of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to work together with the biomedical engineers and develop solutions for healthcare. Biomedical engineering is my major, and I like it that soon I will be developing many machines to help people enjoy their lives and live longer. It also pays well to be a biomedical engineer and there are many job opportunities. I would not consider changing my majors, and I am happy with the choice that I made.
