Biomimicry as the term suggests means mimicking nature. It is carried out in various fields. There are many examples of biomimicry. One is the example of the production of a needle that penetrates the skin with ease. This innovation was based on mosquito bite. As its bite causes minimum pain, the needle created based on this idea also enters the skin without causing pain . Another example is the creation of underwater communicating modem which is employed in tsunami early warning system. A company named EvoLogics has manufactured this. It is based on the fact that how dolphins use many frequencies in a single transmission. This helps in coping up the communication problems underwater .
The idea discussed by Benyus was of Bullet Train. It is the fastest train in the world. The idea behind making this train was derived from the bird Kingfisher’s beak. The front-end of the train is modeled like the bird’s beak. It is done in order to reduce the noise that is created by the high speed of this train. In his Ted Talk, Michael Pawlyn talks about was the building of Seawater greenhouses. The inside of this house gets cool and humid because of the evaporation which is achieved by trickling sea water over them. Plants get the moisture they require. The idea was taken from the Namibian Desert beetle. It takes the humid air on its shell by climbing on a sand dune. The water that gets condensed is then consumed by the beetle
