Internet and Propaganda
The advent of the internet has transformed information reach. This implies that knowledge is no longer a protected treasure of the elite, but open to all who care to look for it. Unfortunately, my opinion is as information output increases the finding of relevant information is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The reason being propagandist has taken cue, and they are among the biggest contributors of information on the internet. Readers however have to be able to tell opinions from facts and to do these it would mean that the reader would have to have a particular level of basic knowledge on everything but, no one knows everything. These leaves us, open to misinformation in areas that we have no understanding. The advertising and media community is like the prophets in the medieval ages. To most people whatever they say is new, usable information sent out to change lives. However, the truth is far from this. The advertising community is a business community interested in profits. Therefore, it is the readers’ duty to tell facts and truths from millions of articles, tutorials and news videos from advertising traps designed to draw more sales from customers. Take the example of freelance writers to write most of the topics on the internet. They have little or no interest on the content; their primary motivation is usually the payment and not information. Whatever freelancers write is right as long as it satisfies their customers. It is with these considerations that I conclude the internet is a big library. Unfortunately in these Library everyone contributes this includes the wisest and brightest amongst us, but also liars, propagandists, crafty sales men, thieves, and all sought of sick people including people who eat people. The internet has thus not only made it easier for the advertisers and the media community to reach customers for their benefits but also made it harder for readers to know the truth from lies or fact from opinions.
