This essay will review Bloom’s Taxonomy in an effort to evaluate the impact that the tool can have in my own teaching in the field of dance. Assessing the areas of evaluation, synthesis, analysis, application, comprehension and knowledge will enable a far better understanding of the factors needed for a credible decision. In the end, this study will benefit my efforts to learn and identify the best overall teaching methods available.
The area of evaluation relates to the ability to institute value judgments as regards materials or ideas (Nwlink.com 2013). In the field of dance the skill of evaluation will serve me in a beneficial way as I develop the best association of materials with my students. Connecting with the dance will aid in my ability to instil a lasting educational experience for each pupil. As a highly unique form of art, dance can be adapted for each individual. In the form of group exercise, the skill of evaluation will aid my selection of parts and roles for specific student’s strengths and weaknesses.
Synthesis allows an educator to build a plan from many variables (Nwlink.com 2013). This will be invaluable as a dance instructor. The ability to have a wide range of both skill and material will create positive environment for growth in the classroom. Recognizing the capacity to branch out beyond the standard, to incorporate a wide range of talent and vision in one production will allow for a much deeper understanding of dance for each of my students.
The ability to analyse, or separate out the individual components in order to create a better overall organization is primary pillar of Bloom’s Taxonomy (Nwlink.com 2013). As a dance instructor, this will aid my ability to break down the whole, and build a better understanding. The ability to take apart each area of a class or production lends knowledge and experience to both the educator and the student. In dance, each student will be able to see the integrated parts that each one plays; this will serve to drive the students to look outside their typical sphere of influence.
Application will be a vital skill as regards the institution of new concepts or abstractions (Nwlink.com 2013). In dance, the ability to adapt and become inclusive to new ideas is a cornerstone. Allowing for the application potential for each class will enable me to choose the best material and the range of the students at hand. It is always a positive element to push the boundaries, to continuously include new content throughout the class.
The ability to credibly comprehend and translate material in the classroom is a fundamental skill (Nwlink.com 2013). This will come into use every day as I work to communicate the material to my students. It will be my ability to convert the words and symbols that rest in the books and pieces that are included in the class that will be the measure of my success to reach my students. Comprehension by the students is my end goal as this understanding translates into long term knowledge and progression.
Finally, the area of Knowledge is a cornerstone of the ability to teach (Nwlink.com 2013). I will use my extensive education to share my knowledge of dance with each of my students. Through the ability of music to become personal for each individual, I will seek out the best underlying material available and utilize that for my students. As each class progresses, I will continue to build upon this knowledge in the hopes of not only reaching my students but yielding long term and beneficial results.
In the end, Bloom’s Taxonomy is a tool that enables a credible illustration of the factors that I will need going forward. It will be this recognition coupled with the working experience that serves to propel both me and my students to the next level of education.
