The current paper is devoted to the analysis of the discovery or the invention of Blue-Native Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (Blue Native PAGE). As well, the paper undertakes to find out the people who were behind the discovery. The paper is besides devoted to highlighting the functions or rather the reasons that prompted the inventors to come up with Blue Native PAGE.
Blue-Native Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (Blue Native PAGE) was at first described by von Jagow and Schägger. They initially discovered Blue Native PAGE in 1989 as a simple technique to isolate membrane protein complexes immediately from purified mitochondria. It was discovered as a better method for separation of enzymatically active membrane complexes of protein under conditions which are mild (Dresler, Klimentova and Stulik, 2012).
The most recent development is the Blue-Native DIGE, which employs Blue-Native PAGE of fluorescent labeled protein complexes through subsequent SDS PAGE. Blue-Native DIGE is perfect for the detection of biologically induced proteomics experiments changes. It is characterized with an advantage of getting rid of gel-to-gel variation (Wittig and Scha.gger, 2009).
